Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How to get laid off?

Does anyone know how to get laid off? Genuine question but it would be very beneficial for me to get laid off instead of quitting

Start taking unplanned PTO so HR can put you on that list.

I just complained about selling deidentified data, the new manager strategy, and stop participating in meetings.

Constructively criticize your manager or any manger they favor by exposing a truth. Something as simple as, “X does not know how to…” or “X did not handle that properly.”

Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, "We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device"
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't ki-l the beast

Did you assume positive intent? Are you under a microscope because they are trying to crosstrain in your department or on your team so you can take vacation and not have to be called if there is any issue? Do you work on a team and others might need to know how something you do works so they can add onto it? Is another team upstream wanting to change something and detemining impact? Did you ask why you were being asked for the information? Did you document it? If you documented it, and it is something offshore can perform, then you might be getting your wish in 2024. But it sounds like you already provided a solution that works for you. Good luck on your next position!

I’m just going to lay myself off. I know for a fact my position is under the microscope. I’ve been here 14 years and have never been questioned about every process I do. We have a great team, terrible culture. I was just offered a new position with another company. Hard to say goodbye despite the heartless culture at Optum.

Go on a leave of absence due to work stress, because we should take care of our mental health, right? Just don’t do it on company time, even though that stress is directly related to the culture.

Request for an extended leave of 2-3 months for stress, health or family issues.
You do not have to take the leave in the unlikely event it gets approved. It is very challenging to secure funding for temporary cover. They often will just let you go to free up a headcount to hire a replacement.

Speak up. Ask questions. Ask them to explain why they are changing things. That makes them super mad

Be competent and they will want you gone.

I agree 100% to this statement.

Not true really, this just means they give you more work and railroad you harder.

There's a difference between being laid off and being let go. Laid off means your position was eliminated for business reasons, which may entire you to benefits.
Being let go for poor performance is the same as being fired. You probably won't be entitled to benefits.
Layoffs can be salary driven and cost-benefit driven. Many companies consider employees a financial liability if they're using a lot of health care dollars. That's just the reality.

Just work ethically and efficiently. Raise an issue with their negligence of patients with their profit over people work ethic. Oh and don’t forget to call them out for their DEI initiatives that create discrimination and promote hiring unqualified supervisors who abuse their positions by only supporting people of their same race right under upper managements nose.

Just tell your manager, if there is a layoff you want to be laid off.

Just start saying NO to inept middle management that got there by kissing a-s! They only want to hear yes to their self serving political decisions, my director who was a prime example of The Peter Principle, look it up, always used to say he wanted good soldiers. If you gave them truly time tested solutions that were proven by experience, they would listen and ignore you, later giving you no credit at map time and instead saying you need to be more of a team player. It’s only because UHG is too big to fail that this cronyism goes on!
If you agree with any of this, start talking to your mgr respectably but openly suggest different directives, you will be laid off in the next round, it works! If I didn’t have so much UNC stock I would want them to fail. Instead I hope they get bought and my investment peaks so I can sell.

Send an email to the top 10 executives outlining suspect behaviors that are unethical from your department

You gotta make sure your yearly MAP scores are 2 or below going into Feb 2024 That’s how departments figure out who’s getting sacrificed in the lay off

Have a direct conversation with your manager about it. Can almost guarantee there’s already a list. You’d be doing everyone a favor by volunteering. Know first hand that several people did this in California last month.

Tell your boss and their direct manager that you would like to be moved to the top of the list. I would appreciate that.
