Yes, 20000. The major hit will come in May.

I don't even work at VMWare, just in the field, but calling the original person a troll is a bit odd. The SEC filing definitely looks like some EXTREME layoffs are planned for the next year and original poster said the big hit will come in May. They clearly meant 20K spread out over time, not at once. It's really bizarre to me that it's painted like they were lying because the number they said wasn't 100% accurate and didn't happen all at once? There are still layoffs going on.

Well according the the Broadcom Filing, they expect only 14K employees with RSU. So if the cut is only 5K, there will be more fat trimming on the horizon.

Wasn't there JUST in the last 24 hours a filing with SEC about restructuring to be expected in 2024 with the acquisition of VMware and future acquisitions? I didn't read the filing, but on the surface it sounds like it's BCs way of saying hey when we buy companies there's going to be layoffs. Thanks Captain Obvious. LOL.

Oh boy.

“ EUC and Carbon black were spun off, that's a good couple of thousand right there, at least, as well.”

I don’t know about CB but a bit more than couple thousand is about right for EUC. My question is do those really count against the numbers HT is trying to cut to? They are pretty much independent entities at this point.

Will managers also get impacted ?

Didn't he are only 15k engineers in the company? not 20k worth of cuts?

Do agree with the below. EUC and CB staff reductions will lower the company a few extra thousand.
Agree its more than 2800 cut now, that's just whats been reported but doesn't include any India, Africa or east Asia cuts.
Not sure how many are on transition, but i suspect 3k?

Yes this is needed, as this time, selection will be based on performance. Slackers and lazy folks that do nothing but bully will be gone. Can’t wait.

2800 is nowhere near the final number. There were 1300 at the Palo Alto campus alone, out of what, 5000? That's 25%, and I'd be surprised is the global average will be very different in this round. EUC and Carbon black were spun off, that's a good couple of thousand right there, at least, as well.

Broadcom has $33B revenue on 20k employees
VMW had $13B on 38k employees
You do the math. If you dont think more and deeper cuts will come, youre not very good at math.

Pls stop speculating. There is nothing we can do about it if/when it happens.

Hard to say 20k but the numbers will be large. Already fired around 3k. Then add those in transition, add those in biz units to be sold, more offices closing, functions outsourced - most will get laid off in 2024. Can easy be over 15k.

Remember HT said “38,000 employees freaks me out.” In first all hands. He will be shedding people like a machine.

Hock said that he'd improve margins by $3.8 billion over the next 3 years. Most of that will come from layoffs. Expect rolling layoffs for the next 3 years in the range of 15,000 to 20,000.

He talked about revenue growth but that's going to be difficult when you laid off so many product specialists and expect generalists to take up the slack.

He also talked about focusing on customer success but that's going to be difficult when so many support teams have been impacted.

He talked about focusing on existing customers but he means the top 20%, however many of them are looking for alternative products and much revenue comes from the other 80% that he is ignoring.

The biggest reductions will come from eliminating duplicate general & administrative functions across information technology, finance, legal, human resources and facilities. You just just expect that things won't work well after everyone who knows how things work are gone.

This isn't a complete BS. SEC Filling Form 8-K on Dec 07 already stated that $1.3 billion to be used for the implementation of cost reduction activities. If you use some common senses, you can guess what that's for. Hock also said there will be a lot of changes in 2024 and a stable down in 2025. Everything is in line with what he said and do. This man is transparent and upfront about his work, which I appreciate. Now, do the math of how many heads a $1.3 billion can lop. No one knows what's the time frame, the May period is BS.

It's weird that you have such a need for attention on an anonymous forum.
