Thread regarding SAP layoffs

RTO changes

Regarding the changes on personnel issues which are now being rolled out ( my team is now discussing implementing skill set review for each of us and coaching for everyone) - has anyone had discussions with your managers about mandating return to office by beginning of the new year? I know this was part of the new HR rollout plans.

I don't know if it will be changed or not, but what has always concerned me about this "work from anywhere" idea is that we have now a new CFO this year and I could easily see questions being asked from a financial perspective as to why SAP is keeping all of its facilities when there is basically very little occupancy to justify the expense?

SAP has built some of the most impressive ( and expensive) campuses in all of our geographies and to have these sit idle doesn't seem like it would make sense to a CFO.
I could see the financial suggestion being either sell off all of these prime locations or begin to use them.

Actually it was not SAP who was stating going to the office everyday was over, but rather an author they were highlighting. Simply put, unless you have an employment contract which states you have the ability to WFH for the duration of your contract, there is nothing anyone can do if SAP changes their view on WFH. We are all employees "at will" and accordingly SAP has the right to change its policies as they so wish.

I see potential lawsuits coming if SAP revokes the WFH. On our own company website SAP said going to the office everyday was over. Now some rumors are they want to eliminate it?

If this were to happen I can only think of the many SAP employees who went and bought houses in geographies that are not commutable to any SAP office because they were told that going to the office was over and as a result I could see many lawsuits emerging if there was a 180 on this topic.

My guess IF there is really a return to office mandate coming, then it will be done board area by board area and location by location. Many of our teams are managed remotely where the manager is not only not in the same location but in a different country and time zone. So for example for those who are not in plushy areas ( like Sales Org) but are rather sitting in a location alongside the manager, then this would apply to them.

However In my 20+ years with SAP I HAVE YET TO SEE a company policy adhered to 100%, no sooner this would be rolled out, there will there be exceptions to it. Favoritism, managers who don't care or don't know what's going on in different locations, etc... will make this a complete morale mess.

So everybody the message is start to get your justifications ready so you can be in those groups to whom this would not apply.

Keep in mind there are holiday parties at all location at the moment. Such announcements are made AFTER the celebrations, not immediately before. Better brace yourselves for next week.

Not too overly sure about that. Rumors have it that the board and new chair of supervisory board eagerly want RTO.

I can only speculate that if this occurs it's because of our new HR "chief people" person. There wasn't an issue until she arrived.

Interestingly there is nothing about that in Germany other than rumors (about three days a week). My manager is as clueless as we are (I tend to believe him).
What is happening in other locations?

My manager was asked about this about in our team call. She was really not definitive. She just was saying things are always subject to change depending on what was best for the company at any particular time. We were left with the idea that this was the party line the managers were told to say if asked about it.
