Look at what happened to other companies in similar situations. They cut as many employees as they could from the start to save on costs. And they kept cutting until there was only a skeleton left. Those who stay will not have a life, considering how much work they'll be expected to do. There's no win for any of us here, other than walking away.

I started working at a Sears store that was dying supposedly, went through all the changes and ended up working through liquidation...5 years total and here I am working at Macy's looking to work for another 5 years. Our store for the first time is not meeting all the sales goals, but our Backstage is. I hear the stores with a Backstage will be fine.
Yep. If they announce the deal is done, start looking for your next job asap. Or, alternately, wait until the how-ever-many Macy's employees are scrambling in the marketplace.
Yeah but SEARS was a complete nightmare after 2008. Didn't know where to go, who there customer was and was clueless to modernization. ..."yes I'd like to order that tractor on page 241 of your catalogue. The green one!" .
Look at what happen to Sears, they had to many stores and the private investor close the stores year by year.
