Sales Reps (losing commissions)

There have been talks about paying all Sales at their OTE for this fiscal year. That is a huge blow for top reps that have historically blew this number out the window!

Top reps will start leaving ASAP

I’ve been blessed to make 7 figures as an enterprise rep at VMware on a $350k OTE leading some significant deals. Partners weren’t value added resellers… specialist weren’t prospecting and discovering opportunities but were helpful once leveraged and they realized the opportunity was real..

These opportunities were extremely competitive and organizations could have went in a completely different direction.

The previous company I worked for was acquired and went to a team goal and it only lasted for a year once they lost a ton of good people.

Most reps at my level are all qualified enough to go down the management career path and a big hesitation has away been not having the ability to control what you make!!

Sorry but nobody will leave due to this. This is BS. The reason for that plan is that it is impossible to set proper and fair targets during the massive integration with lot of historic burden in VMware contracts compared to BC. The target setting in VMW was a joke where nearly all sales made 400% quota. This was no sign of good reps but rather for bad management blowing out money like he-l.

BC has team quotas and will ensure that everyone will get 100% OTE until reasonable team targets can be set that usually are overachieved as well but capped at 200%. For every sales rep with mental sanity this is far better than to get a hastily set target that will turn out unrealistic and leave everyone with much less. This in turn would drive good people to leave.

With such a condescending response "see how this works now"... typical entitled sales talk. No you did not bring in the whatever millions you make up on your own. It was NOT you and you alone, if you actually believe this , you need to hit the real world outside of vmware and our perpetual licensing, with commissions being paid on products you had nothing to do with.

vmware was very generous with comp plans and how it paid on exceeding targets, spiffs, etc... Go to aws and see what you get or any hyperscaler for that matter.

the golden egg of vmware paying people for doing little to nothing are over

“ sales reps are overvalued”

Wonder if you were thinking the same as you were picking up your company bonus as a result of meeting revenue targets by sales reps?…………

i really don’t think you know what you are talking about for those saying sales reps are over paid. If I bring in 25 million at 80% profit margin then I made the company 19 million. If my comp plan pays me 700k for that it is a massive bargain for the company especially if my yearly goal was 8 million where the company would have made 6.4 million. See how all this works now?

sales reps are overvalued in today's market

Not really. They are over valued if you are selling to a customer who can’t stop using your product.

We are selling crack to addicts. They don’t need much wining and dining, in fact roughing them up is par for the course.

Do you think the US military is going to “shift stacks”? The govt prints money, they will do another extra printing run just for Hock.

This is totally false. They will get paid full OTE if their TEAM hits their number. No one is guaranteed anything.

This is the one thing that I somewhat agree with, sales reps are overvalued in today's market, claiming comp on deals that landed on their laps or that were driven by partners with considerably deeper and wider relationships at the customer level. Some people say that this "carries the slackers", but that's only true if your team culture enables the slacker. If you don't pull your weight, it'll be evident and you'll be managed out.

Sales will be comped only based on team perf, not individual perf. Let’s see how many folks like that arrangement.

Every time Hock opens his mouth more folks from VMware quit.

"Top reps will start leaving ASAP"

Another voluntary VMW headcount reduction strategy, it's similar to the RTO incentive.

I wonder how many other ways AVGO will continue to avoid paying severance.

Typically less than half of VMW sales reps reach their annual quota objective.
