I just broke the news to the kids over the weekend Santa won’t be coming to our house this year. What are you cutting this year with no bonus and no raise to make ends meet?

So sad. The 300 series buildings no longer have a Walgreens sign up at the street side. Wow! Another one bites the dust. Another waste of money on the enclosed walkways between 108, 300 and 300 buildings. Who made that wasteful decision? That money could have saved jobs or pause some bills.
So tired of hearing about bonuses. Many of us are not even "bonus-eligible" and yet year after year, the "bonus-eligible" employees either brag about the bonuses they receive or complain that they did not receive one or that the bonus was small. One supervisor who was promoted to that job because of connections boasted to me that he now had a "bonus-eligible" position (I did not and he knew very well that I did not because he was my supervisor). It's very rude to talk about being bonus eligible or about receiving or not receiving a bonus in front of people who aren't even eligible. Several of the "bonus-eligible" employees in my area don't work or hardly work at all, but think they are "key" employees because they happen to have a job title that is "bonus-eligible." Many of the promotions to bonus eligible positions happen because the promoted person is personal friends with the manager or is well-connected in some other way, not because the promoted person actually deserved the promotion. One bonus-eligible employee in my department walks around outside almost day long. When he is not walking around, he is chatting with other employees. Some employees work very hard and do deserve a promotion to a bonus-eligible position, but their supervisor holds them back because the employee is performing well and is not a troublemaker. When I worked at one store, I was doing the monthly li---r inventory by myself and it involved counting every single bottle on the shelf and in the stockroom, including bottles in cases. We were a high-volume li---r department, and there was a lot to count every month because we had to have sufficient inventory for sales. The store manager walked past and told me to make sure I did a good job on the inventory, because it affected his bonus, and he acted like it was a given that I cared about his bonus. I wasn't bonus-eligible because my job title wasn't in the bonus-eligible category, yet I was supposed to make sure I did a good job so he could get a good bonus (which he used to take himself, his wife, and his mother-in law on a Caribbean cruise every year)? A better way to structure the bonuses would be to make every single employee bonus eligible, even if no bonus is given that year.
But it’s called a bonus for a reason. You shouldn’t expect to get a bonus every single year. That’s why you budget and live off your regular salary 🤷🏽♂️
I always give something at a lower price range from Santa. Something is better than nothing. This happened to me once growing up and my parents made it up to us later when things turned around.
I’m so sorry about this hardship.

Please consider giving the gift of experiences. Take your kids sleding in the snow. Play a game of Capture The Flag. Teach them a skill they enjoy. Work on a project together. There are many gifts that cost zero dollars and are more valuable than money.
If you are working at the stores, I understand. If you are working corporate, sell your BMW!
Bonuses are just that. Something that is not a given, which we all learned this year applies to everyone except for the executives who Fu#ked up this place.
Don't forget about that very generous holiday bonus of $25 in balance rewards! No wonder morale is in the toilet.
