Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Strategy to avoiding layoffs

Learn to kiss the right butts efficiently (also, diversify - you need as many high-ranking butts as you can manage). Practice your yes-man or yes-woman head nod and proceed to commend everything that comes from your superior's mouth, no matter how stupid it is. Also, make sure to take credit for other people's work. If you master all of these, you're golden.

Door number 2 doesn’t work unfortunately. It all comes down to where Dell can save money. Your performance means nothing. Maybe kissing the right butts along the way or declining raises.

There was one person on here a while back that said he was going to avoid layoffs by pretending he had family emergency so he'd not answer any calls from Dell and let them know that he would be on short-term leave of absence.

I wonder how that turned out.

How about just you do your job the best you can. Life is too short to have to worry about making it through another round of layoffs. If you find yourself worrying all the time about getting laid off, this might be a good time to move on. Find a place where you can contribute towards a common goal, grow your skills, and balance your work and home life.
