There is a rumor that with the upcoming staff cuts the typical 3 weeks per yr of service wont be offered and only the legal minimum would be.. Also no volunteers either, they will tell you that you have been cut... Very different from past reorgs.. Has anyone heard this or any thoughts?

@Gbqt - I was prior poster about getting laid off without severance. Adding some details, I didn't even get the standard severance. I had no work at Shell because my position had been eliminated. So, I got a new job and promised my new employer to start when my job at Shell was done. At the time I was interviewing, I told them I would be available at the "go live" date. Then Shell shifted the date for US employees who were involuntarily terminated - and I would need to stay 2 more months doing nothing to get the severance. Dutch employees received full special severance when leaving on that date. US employees who voluntarily left got full special severance when leaving on that date. My work at Shell was done and I tried to turn in my computer and take reserve vacation for the 2 months, but Shell recorded it as me quitting. In hindsight, I should have left months earlier instead of trying to do the right thing and expecting Shell to do the same.
You absolutely can give your manager a heads up that if things start looking like cuts are coming that you wouldn't mind being considered. This usually works best if it is a nearing retirement situation. If you are just wanting to leave and get a payout but you end up staying this may impact future career as now your manager is aware you are looking to leave. Some will hold that against you, others won't. So the question is: do you trust your manager to have this conversation?
That might work, but you would need to proactively tell your boss, well before the cuts are actually announced. The lists of those impacted are assembled without the boss knowing what severance terms are being planned for those on the list.
Wondering - if volunteering is not offered, can you talk to your boss and tell them 'Hey please pick me'... Should be doable as it saves bosses from having to surprise unsuspecting team members.... No?
"I got laid off in a prior reorg and never got my severance even though I stayed until go-live for the reorg."
I'll take "Something that Never Happened for $500, Alex".
I know of some groups that have offered SVS. I guess it is a business-by-business decision, but would find it very strange if there are businesses out there that are not offering SVS.
If my business offers it, I am taking the money and running.
Don't hold your breath about severance. Jump if you have a job offer elsewhere. I got laid off in a prior reorg and never got my severance even though I stayed until go-live for the reorg.
I wish they would just get on with it. Some groups know there will be cuts but leadership hasn’t officially announced it.
in the groups where re-orgs have been announced, there was MOR round. i believe there will be severance for those not able to land. what is different is you cannot volunteer for severance package. they will just tell you that you are impacted..
I have also heard from our management that’s they are just going to tell you that you are cut i.e. there won’t be an MOR. But I have not heard about the severance being cut.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
That’s really toxic to say we should be glad for our jobs and benefits. The corporation should be glad that we are willing to give it years before being laid off.
Hi, where can we find the chemicals and products org charts? Is there a dedicated SharePoint site? Also we were told clearly that there will be no SVS program this time...
Chemicals and Products just circulated org charts. Lots of impact. Unclear on SVS, not being discussed openly yet.
What other teams besides LCS and P&T are being impacted now?
the special severance guide in HR online under US benefits updated Oct 2023 still lists 3 weeks per year
Read the benefits handbook. 1 week per year up to 10 weeks is the stated severance. If that’s the case they need to change the handbook.
My understanding is that for those already announced, there was a severance option. Also pretty sure there is no "legal minimum" - they don't have to give you a severance at all.
I see class action lawsuit written all over this.
Can’t wait
Be glad you have a job and health insurance and are able to pay your bills. That's all that matters. 2024 is going to be a tough year for many with many companies laying off workers. Artificial Intelligence will start to take over jobs.
