Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How can I avoid a layoff?

Can I go to HR and ask to get the package for the next layoff? Will that cause them to assume I am looking to leave on my own so they won't allow me to be on the list. Anybody know if such reverse psychology will work with HR? I don't want to lose my job but this seems like a way to avoid being on the list.

You are better off holding on for the WRT than jumping ship. I waited for years but the golden handshake was worth it. The EMEA support teams are so quiet, the management have the techs jumping through hoops with all sorts of pointless targets and box-ticking exercises.
The ratio of techs to managers is lower every year due to high attrition rate - it a really toxic place to work due to the corruption and lack of integrity amongst multitude of management staff.

There is a link on the EMEA HR website: Volunteer to leave... Or something similar. Do you get a package like WFR or just go. Scared to even ask HR what it's about in case ...

You can't avoid it, keep working and getting paid until it's over. Keep your network going and always be looking.

Layoffs are definitely planned many months ahead. I was laid off in May. Dell hired a Roma manager totally out of his depth (inexperienced and unqualified) a couple of years ago in my team. He hired cheap Russian and Romanian techs on lower salary during Covid and these would be my replacement when trained up in legacy products I specialised in.
I needed to go out on sick leave last year for a sports injury and the slightest hint of a downturn gave them all the excuse they needed to get rid of me.

You can avoid layoffs by going to a smaller company. No seriously, small companies have incredibly stronger job security than big tech because the C-Suite doesn't bend over for their investors nearly as often.

Layoffs are chosen months, many months in advance. It's an unstoppable train that is destined to go off rails.

It's time you embrace the harsh reality of corporate backstabbing.

You will definitely get a package sooner then you expect (perhaps sooner then you think) once your boss finds out from HR.
Just keep your mouth shut and let it play out. If you think you're at risk, then update your resume with latest skills, and do online training on whatever skills that you lack that Dell offers online. Take advantage of internal training while you still can.
