Reasons for China to approve

There are none.

Xi just released a paper in September to talk about China becoming a more dominant global force opposing the West. In it he infers that global security and peace will not happen without the West allowing Russia and China “to live” regardless of whether it agrees with its politics and policies.

Our restrictions on technology are for national security reasons. China sees these as unfair practices to keep China submissive to the global economy and power of the US.

Delaying this deal is the only current chip China has against the order Biden signed a few weeks ago.

Now tell me Broadcom/HT : why would Xi ever approve this? It’s obvious HT attempts to be in bed with everyone, moving the BC HQ and embarrassingly trying to sl--e up to trump into the Qualcomm deal, but the reality is no one cares about a greasy arrogant business man in this larger political landscape of tension from East and West.

These are not new developments. Shocking but not shocking that the money behind MD/SL/HT did not accurately advise them on the impossibility of this deal.

As a VMware employee why would you want this deal to get approved? The company will be gutted. BC will milk the revenue. You job will be doing maintenance. Your colleagues who could do the work will be gone. Only the C team will remain.

You'll be surprised how many people are just waiting for the deal to close to get their severance so as to retire, become full-time homemakers or to just get the money and move on outside of VMware.

if you change "why would you" to "why would you not", the outcome will literally be the same

This deal had nothing to do with the stock going up. That was a sector move due to TSMC volume reporting which bodes well for large customers like Broadcom.

When was it released? Link?

BC stock going up is the market sensing that the deal is happening.

No matter what the strategy of China is, the deal won't get approved.

I agreed with you until this. Our deal is not the only current chip China has, nor do the US and China even care about it. It is part of a larger strategy of noncooperation across many areas.

Chinese economy is not doing good. Issues with real estate, companies leaving China since COVID, youth unemployment is through the roof that they stopped reporting. Companies like Nvidia, Qualcomm wants to sell their products to China. China wants to buy these products for now until they build them in-house. So both US companies and China want to do business but not USA. Thinking that Xi would just retaliate without considering their issues as the sanctions war escalates. Newsom going to China and Xi coming here does look more like softening their stances. My guess is that HT has already gotten the verbal approval of sort and will be public after this APEC meeting next week. BC stock going up is the market sensing that the deal is happening.
