I see “Rest & Vest” all the time on this site and it always makes me laugh.
I was let go in the last layoff, my last day I’d December 13th, and in all the years I worked for Qualcomm there was never a time when I wasn’t insanely busy. And the people I connected with everyday were the same, very busy, very engaged.
Apple has a modem but it has a thermal problem. No good burning people, it makes for unhappy customers. In 18 months Apple will have this resolved, and QCOM will be back to talking about not relying on Apple to keep the lights on.
The truth is the company is being run into the ground by really bad management, and some amateurish business decisions. The CEO knows his tenure is coming to a close. The Bord of Directors is already looking for a replacement outside the company.

There is a new article out saying new layoffs are happening in December.
That’s most likely linked to poor performance reviews.
There was a rumor in July that managers were told this review period they had to rank their employees, and ratings should be given accordingly. So, only a couple employees could get top ratings. Others had to fall in the middle, and those managers rated the lowest on their teams should receive low scores. Not sure if this is true. It sounded odd, but it would be a way to stop managers from keeping just their friends. Either their friends would need to perform, or the manager would be on the line for giving high ratings to people for aren’t performing.
If you know anything about Q… then you should know layoffs are NEVER over!
Rest and Vest with one eye open.
The news from Apple's former colleagues is that Apple's baseband has made great progress. The main problem now is the need to bypass a patent of Qualcomm. There is still a certain fever problem, and it is not a big problem for Apple to find the right person.
Layoff is not over, just over for this year
