Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Nov 26th d-day

So, this deal looks like it's toast. China isn't going to budge in the next 2 weeks and Hock + Raghu have already lost all credibility by claiming they were going to most definitely close on Oct 30 then revealing that it was all BS.

Now, the question is, are they going to extend the outside date to perhaps late Dec or sometime in Jan 2024 or are they going to scrap the deal entirely.

My take is that they will extend to a new outside date Jan 2024 to perhaps convince China, then in Jan 2024 they will scrap the deal. VMW will have massive layoffs that align with Q4 quarter end in late Feb or early Mar. You'll be on non working payroll Mar-Apr.

Speculations?

Old Chinese proverb
“Men can’t live without a face, trees can’t exist without bark”

This deal will time out and HT can save face and cite the political situation with Washington and Beijing has made it impossible to move forward as china has not agreed to or not said they would agree to approved the acquisition.

Remember saving face is very important in Asian culture especially in Chinese culture and HT is Malaysian Chinese.

I was downvoted to oblivion for saying that it will be extended towards Nov .26.

You're just guessing, along with everyone else. Why does it matter?

VMware doesn’t need BC so much. If deal fails the board of directors will make management changes and restructure the company to get more cash flow from it. The stock price will fall at first and then has potential to rise as VMW becomes more productive.

People who didn’t receive BC offers are praying/ speculating to cancel the deal, but now BC vmware deal is on very advance stage and will close by this month end. Till then all you can live in your false dream.

Likewise I was ignored totally in BC unofficial channels and the like by the "big guys"

This acquisition is a bust and will not go forward, there is no reason China would approve the deal if they aren't approving within the remaining 18 days.

VMware will have to do layoffs itself, but it will be a much "softer" compared to Broadcom. It's good news for average performance people and the people who has good ties with the right people. Not good for high-achievers, as they will be outputting 2x, 4x times more to cover up for the people who are "working from home".

This isn't a car purchase Grasshopper!

They can't extend anymore as per the original contract, only 3 agreed to in the contract and this (Nov.26th)

There won't be any extension. The contract doesn't allow for it. This deal won't get redone. Why would the board sign up for another round of this garbage? Why would China approve later? The deal is finished. Get ready to work for a boss that didn't keep you or get another job.

Maybe it was all part of the BC strategy, massively sc--w up the deal, then swoop in early next year and pick up the smoldering pieces for cents on the dollar?

Most important thing is that in case of delay they will restart the EPIC shutdown end of Dec :)

"Speculations-VMWare will exit China and this acquisition can move on"

That's what I thought initially, but was pointed out it's not VMware that would have to exit China, it's Broadcom. I think if it was as easy as "No more business for VMware in China" we'd be closed by now and figure it out later; we don't have that much business there anyway. But Broadcom does, and if they can't sell to China anymore, that would be very materially impactful to them.

They can't extend anymore as per the original contract, only 3 agreed to in the contract and this (Nov.26th) was the last such extension allowed. They would need to renegotiate a new deal which would open up a whole new can of worms for BC and VMW not to mention getting approval from both set of shareholders and so that is unlikely to happen.

China holds all of the cards at the moment and they know it and so are likely looking for some big concessions above and beyond what they have already received from Hok, all by Nov.26th or else. These concessions, may even possibly but not likely include some concessions from the US. Hok would therefore need to lobby the US gov to advocate on his deal's behalf, which it is not likely to do, leaving him only the option to appease China some more, IMHO.
