Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Disappointed Sales and Presales teams

Got the Broadcom offer and I am part of the Presales team. Here are my thoughts focused on Sales and Presales only, as I can't speak for other teams due to my lack of knowledge.

  1. To those who didn't receive an offer or won't receive one, I want to emphasize that you haven't missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Focus your efforts positively on your next career step.
  1. Based on local leadership communication, at Broadcom it seems the typical period for new performance-based RSU offerings is in March, and appraisals occurs in June. Those who've received offers now may not see any increment or RSUs for 18 months. Confirmation from someone at Broadcom would be helpful.
  1. Some threads on this site mentioned the removal of the option to decline and receive severance. In my offer letter FAQ, this option was available for US regions.
  1. Broadcom's offer, especially the number of RSUs, is primarily determined by your band (P4, P5, etc.), it doesn't consider your past performance or experience in VMware or overall experience in IT. The decision to extend an offer or not was made by local country heads and core SE leaders.
  1. For some, their overall existing salary has been reduced.

For Sales and Presales, the expectation built around compensation didn't reflect in the offer letters, so it's a disappointment. Some sales professionals are already exploring other opportunities or have declined and resigned due to regional quota structures. It can be demotivating for high-performing salespeople to realize that their compensation won't change for 18 months.

P5 presales here in a country where they couldn't send offer until afyer close. I am expecting at least 600 welcome RSU and same base pay to convince me to stay, if BC want to keep me and are happy with me making the expected ARR and net new.

If you are stating that the total comp isn’t great is because you didn’t consider that the important is a medium/long term perspective with the new RSU grants each year and the stock evaluation. It is not easy to understand even for people on their second or third year of Broadcom.

What do you think the chances are of them pulling an Elon and not paying the severance at all? maybe along the lines of: we said we would pay but we didn’t say when. Twitter people in a class action now trying to collect from Musk.

If by "increment" you mean raises, forget it. Hock doesn't do such things unless you are well below the mid-point of your band and are an exceptional performer.

  1. Not correct, I was in VMw and BRCM in a role "realy" relevant to your field without giving out too much. BRCM is far superior in comp, RSUs, at least in my case. Also BRCM is blue chip stock that appreciated massively, whilst VMw...well, "not so much" would be an understatement:)
  2. Not correct on 18 month comment, welcome RSUs should vest quarterly; you can get additional annual stock in March, correct.

Finaly: If you care about what you do, you will find yourself in a great org, If you are looking for D&I, Welness days off etc, you are not going to like it (albeit I honestly had more time off and less stress in Broadcom tbh due to job being more fulfilling with achievable goals coming from leadership)

Betsy where is my November 1 stock? You promised it and now you won't give it to me. By holding it back you are being dishonest. Have you been lying all along about caring?

Amazing how BC drops the base salary when the merger agreement they signed says they cannot. A red flag from the start.

Same here. I received an offer with a 25% pay cut, and RSUs don't cover the drop in base pay. I agree with the sentiments, and when speaking to Broadcom folks I know from prior, the chance of not being eligible for pay raises or RSUs in 2024 is very real based on their experience.
