Thread regarding VMware layoffs

My anxiety levels are through the roof

I swear, if this is not resolved by the end of this month, I don't know what I'm going to do. I feel like I'm stuck in limbo and have been since the whole Broadcom deal was first announced. I envy those of you who are able to continue functioning like nothing is going on. I envy your confidence. For me, though, this is pure torture.

I am flabbergasted by how little empathy some of my coworkers display

Everybody is in the same boat and no matter how you look at it - you yourself are responsible for your career. I do have personally empathy with people but I do not accept constantly moaning and yet do nothing about it.

People without anxiety used the last 18 months to prepare for the inevitable, updated skills and resume and created a backup plan as well as kept an eye on the job market to realise that VMware skills are legacy skills that nowadays pay half of what they used to 5-10 years ago.

People not part of the above category downvote me because they don't want to face reality.

America's sales leader said in a all hands meeting yesterday, good guy btw, if you don't have a transition or offer letter, you need to "take care of you" and manage your network etc. Not so subtle hint that for the majority of us without letters, if not all, it's the axe when/if the control takeover takes place. My mindset quickly shifted from hope to more action to find the next gig.

  1. Received offer, declined and waiting for severance

I'm curious what's your ideal outcome though:

  1. Received offer and waiting for acquisition closure
  2. Didn't receive offer and hoping acquisition fails
  3. Didn't receive offer but still hoping to get one soon
  4. Didn't receive offer and waiting for severance

I'm 4 of the above, just waiting for my money. Am thinking if I should give up and resign on my own accord 😔

I stopped caring you should try that for a bit. They gave us a big F U. Just matching that energy
