I'm not sure what I would say to that since I don't know myself. It's been a while since I last interviewed and this is the first time I was laid off, so I'm not sure how these things function. I am worried and stressed over it, though. I'm too old for this cr-p.

Yes, with 400 other folks. Honestly I didn't make sense to me and felt like a cost saving measure because I and many others wete driving value and have great relations across the organization.
No need to stress over it. You were laid off due to a re-organization that impacted 450 US associates. This is commonplace these days across many companies and not a reflection on you personally. Protentional employers understand this.
There should be a nice referral letter from staples in your severance packet. It explains the restructure and would answer any questions before they were asked. A nice recommendation too. You will be good to go and most likely better off. You are done with toxic management. Hooray!
To the person who commented on the old south…grow tf up. Unless you were part of the internal investigation team then no one on here needs to hear your speculation on why you think what. You sound jealous. lol
Just admit you cheated if you came from the old south and was fired. Be honest.
I was laid off from Staples 4 years ago. Recruiters and hiring managers ask but when they see Staples on your resume they are not surprised and do not care. New employers will appreciate that you worked in a large company, but Staples itself is purely seen as a hold out relic from the 2000's.
Speak the truth. There was mass layoff due to a restructuring that occurred as a result of sustained company underperformance. If anyone has followed Staples in the past five years, or have gone on Glassdoor or this site, they’ll quickly understand, or perhaps not even ask at all.
"My position was eliminated by the company as part of a restructuring of their operations hierarchy," or something like that. That's it - if they ask, and this is especially likely if you've been with the company that long. Employers know that the company is shifting a lot of deck chairs.
I went thru it. They won’t ask. People know that SPLS is struggling.
If they know staples, they will know their underperforming tendencies and the constant layoffs, just let them know your level or position was cut and many of your peers in the same position were also let go in mass layoffs. Usually they don’t ask unless you were terminated.
