Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Congratulations, everyone. It will be safe within five years, and there will be no layoffs.

My director has worked in Qualcomm for many years. He knows the style of management. He hinted at me to work hard. The last layoff was in 2018. The layoffs will be in 2023, and there will be no more layoffs in the next five years. The next layoff should come two years after the successful development of Apple's baseband. At present, Apple's baseband research and development is still in the quagmire

Previous poster said prepare yourself with marketable skills. I would like to also add prepare yourself financially to be able to weather a layoff. If you stay in the industry long enough, chances are fairly good you will be affected at least once.

While you have a job: Work on creating emergency fund (the older you are, the larger the fund needs to be). Keep debt to a minimum.

No one is immune, no matter how good you are (or think you are).

Get to work! The only thing for sure are death and taxes. Stop f'ing worrying about what ifs. Either prepare yourself have marketable skills that is company agnostic or crawl under a rock until the dust settles. Who the heck wants to do the latter??

There were layoffs in 2015 as well.

There were layoffs in 2008 due to the Broadcomm lawsuit.
There were lay offs in 2018 due to Apple trying to put us out of business.
There have been lay offs everything year since. And Apple has flat out said they are a timely trying to separate from us. A friend who was recently let go told me the issue with Apple’s current modem is thermal.

Op should be more realistic. Morale is down because people lost friends, and people who shouldn’t have been let go are gone. Those of us who have been with the company long enough to remember this know there is no safety in this company anymore.

There were layoffs last year (2022) and the layoff is only small if it doesn’t include you!

Main recent layoffs were 2023 and 2018. There was a relatively small one in 2019. This implies 5 more years until the next significant layoff - BUT - I do NOT think we should think the past can predict the future. Too many things are in flux. Attempts to shift to other markets, shift to lower cost centers, etc.

The last layoffs were not in 2018. There were layoffs in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022… please look at the California WARN act notification. What you posted is simply a lie!
