How could you let Hock Tan destroy our company BEFORE he even had it??? Why did you not allow us to be treated with respect o CANT imagine what you would’ve let him done to us and company after acquisition. WE built this company off our backs (sales, engineering and developers, support…) all you do is report numbers to the big man… in this type of sh-t situation you (LEADERSHIP ) supposed to step up ! You destroyed a culture we built for yearsssss Jean Pierre and all these clowns came when ? 5 years ago maybe ? Some us been here double digit !!!! 10+ years … I can’t wait to look at leadership Straight in the Eyes (the same leadership that decided not to give people offer based on playing favorites) and watch them scramble for what to do what to say. You may think those that are angry are those that didn’t get offer . Don’t BS me even those that got offers only took them because the job market is and now and wanted job security we All know it’s not going to be the same company EVER again. Well they made sure of it…

I am sorry to everyone here... but WE are all just a number in a spreadsheet. If you don't want to be that, find a company of no more than 25 people and is not publicly traded. OR start your own company.
This isn't Parler or Truth. Take the fringe conspiracy theories back to your echo chamber.
Did people forget that Leadership rolled over to the Feds and we’re going to force all employees to get jabbed with an experimental vaccine as a condition of employment?
I haven't been here very long, just over 2 years. I looked up to VMware (yes I know nothing of the dysfunctionality that exists) for many years and thought it was the dream job when I was offered a position.
This was my first role at scale, if you will, and I felt like this is where I would stay forever. My management (now) is amazing and has been really supportive. But it's not my direct manager or their manager that this post is about.
I am not a needy, inept person. But I do give respect and trust to those that deserve it and earn it. After what I have seen over these past 2 months; I'm left with no reason to neither respect nor trust VMware leadership anymore.
I'm deeply, deeply saddened by how this entire thing has been handled. I know I feel betrayed. I'm not sure if anyone else see's this as a betrayal or not, but that's where I am now. I feel betrayed because of the lack of communication and the lack of even trying to make this easier on us. When leadership turns their back on you, that's when you know it's over.
I'm interviewing at other companies, so the job market is still busy but the number of applications is huge. I'm grateful to have interviews even with the volume I'm up against. I'm now looking at not just compensation, but I'm asking very pointed questions about the culture at these other companies. Yes the wool may still get pulled over my eyes somewhere else, I'm not an id--t. I'm a grown up and I know that money talks etc etc and businesses are out to make money. This is all fact. But I care about the people that I work with every day, and for me work is more than just making someone else money.
It's feeling valued, being treated like a person (and not a GD line number in a spreadsheet with your rank, title, salary and business unit there for them to sort on) and knowing I make a difference. I don't have to make a patent or bring in crazy revenue for the product developed to feel like I've made a difference. If I help a colleague figure something out, or unblock them, or anything to make their lives better, that's enough for me to feel like I'm having impact.
Even if the reality is that I AM a number in a spreadsheet, leadership makes their OWN choice whether to treat me that way or not.
I actually got a transition letter, and I was originally excited to have a chance to show my worth and thought maybe I will get an offer during that transition time. Now I honestly don't care. That change in my mindset happened in less than a week of seeing everything fall apart, hearing of incredibly talented people not getting letters, and now I have the gut feeling that the honeymoon is over and it's time to move on.
That's MY choice. And I also choose to help any of my colleagues that need it to connect with others, give recommendations for them, and help them in their job search if I can.
I'm still doing my job, and getting things done. But this dream has turned into a bit of a nightmare, and I'm the only one with the power to wake myself up.
Be kind. It's free.
Summarize this
The author is upset about Hock Tan's impact on the company before its acquisition, feeling that respect and culture have been eroded. They believe that leadership failed to protect the company's culture and express frustration with newcomers. The author anticipates confronting leadership and sees the company's future as uncertain due to the changes.
Pretty sure CEO has been here longer than you but def longer than 10 years and was once one of those engineers you spoke of.
I’m still d-mbfounded how surprised people are. The writing has been on the walls for over a year. As soon as it was announced you should have planned for being let go. This is a business and it’s designed to make money. If you don’t like greed, don’t work for a publicly traded or for profit company in a capitalist economy. I’ve seen some of the d-mbest stuff posted by what I am sure are some very intelligent developers and engineers. Nobody here is a unicorn. Everyone is replaceable. If you have not taken the time to prep your resume over the past year and get a feel for the current job market, that’s a failure on your part.
Yep, pretty sure Raghu is on here looking for advice…
The CSG conspiracy theories are a joke. EUC is not that cool, especially VMware's piece of it. This is all just greed combined with ineptitude. Hock said the deal would go through and the greed cult of Broadcom and VMware did not question it. But China happened and China is more powerful than the cult of Hock. Also: VMware has always been a deeply corrupt company hiding behind EPIC2. The only difference between Broadcom and VMware is Broadcom is open while VMware is a typically deceitful California operator.
OP - Well said!!!
You should look into Grammarly my dude.
The more damage they do to VMware the better off it is for their friend Tom Krause and his company Cloud Software Group (formerly Tibco and Citrix)
Broadcom's plan A was to get the acquisition through and form a cartel with CSG and create an industry chokehold the way Broadcom does with semiconductors
The plan B is to do as much damage to VMware as possible while getting their hands on proprietary technologies and strategic roadmap to be used against VMware giving unfair advantage to CSG.
So folks, that was Hock Tan's plan B all along and the reason Tom Krause moved to head Cloud Software Group
OP is right, this is fu---d.
Get a fu--ing grip dude.
