Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

RTO

Apparently, managers can now fire people who do not come to the office at least three times a week. I guess my entire team is about to be fired and we're most likely not the only ones. I'm looking forward to seeing how that works out both for our manager and Amazon in general.

It's called 'accruing fictitious income' by doing 'constructive dismissal' (wrongful termination) - an employee quits because the working conditions have become so intolerable that they can no longer work for the company. An employee claiming to have been constructively terminated must show that “the conditions giving rise to the resignation were sufficiently extraordinary and egregious to overcome the normal motivation of a competent, diligent, and reasonable employee to remain on the job to earn a livelihood and to serve his or her employer.”

Examples - threatening/retaliating termination after asking a 'small' percentage of employees to:

  • drive 3 hours each way to an office
  • relocate a family while having obligations to stay in place
  • ignoring accommodating disabilities/special needs
