When our VMware office was closed and the bulk of staff laid off, they ended up rehiring quite a few in the year following the shutdown.
Yikes! Ground Hog day for you. Glad you we compensated well
Recent hire in EUC here. Figured, meh, why not. I’ve been a part of M&As before and pretty much any company now in the tech space is going through a sh-t show, but they backed up a load of cash for me and I took it. I was leaving a situation that involved a sh---y boss and a company that had a new PE firm come in.
Speaking of LinkedIn, I saw this post this morning:
"Word on the street - more on the upcoming VMware/Broadcom sla-ghter
I'm on the front lines talking to hundreds of professionals every week about their career goals and what's motivating them to make a change.
Here's what people already know about the merger: VMware will release 60% of the leadership, give or take, and cut 50% of the sales staff. Leadership has been informed that they are cutting down from 8 VP's running the Americas, down to 2. Additionally, they are cutting from 45 RSD's down to 7. They are also completely dismantling the structure of the company - where they used to have segmentation for globals, fed/sled, commercial, enterprise, etc, they are flattening to 2 tiers, strategic and corporate. Also, they had 8 BU's, and all 8 BU's are being dissolved, going down to 1, core sales only. Where there were 8 reps before, now there will only be 1. Where overlays were, they will all be gone.
Supposedly they've extended offer letters to 35% of the company. If you haven't gotten one, what does it mean? Either way, it's not good for long term employment prospects."
Some guy named Jordan Rayboy at SNIA. Not sure how much he really knows vs. sh_tposting but there you go.
Only 25 and mainly in India: https://careers.vmware.com/careers-home/jobs
Only a desperate qualified candidate would apply to a VMW job posting. Lots of unqualified people will apply to keep recruiters busy, awaiting the upcoming layoffs.
So, I checked the said site, I see them as few as 4 -5 Jobs posted as remote and duplicated for various major cities. and all of them are EUC, so I suspect those positions are contingent on closing acquisition, and pre EUC spinoff.
Honestly, I would do some research before jumping the g-n.
It's an unfortunate truth that many large companies will lay off employees just before bonus time as a cost-cutting measure, only to turn around and hire new people at lower salaries. This practice, while good for the company's bottom line in the short-term, is questionable ethically. It also eats the company fron inside and, long term, it's detrimental in every sense. The company is prioritizing profits over loyalty and fair treatment of employees, it's a bad-bad-bad practice.
While companies exist to make money, they should balance profitability with ethical treatment of employees. Mass layoffs should be a last resort, and done transparently with advance notice. And eliminating roles solely to hire cheaper replacements feels exploitative.
The tech industry's shift to subscription models is reducing commissions-based sales jobs. Rather than seeking out new customers, revenue comes passively from recurring subscribers. This evolution is probably inevitable as selling shifts online, but displaced salespeople must find new roles. Businesses will act to optimize profits but the human toll should not be ignored. With advance planning and support, negative impacts on laid-off employees can be minimized. And we must develop policies that encourage ethical capitalism, where profits do not come at the expense of people.
Oh, well...
Lay off decently paid workers, bring in new folks who will work for much less.
100% confirmed
They lay off and then figure out oh I need that and hire back
I bet you they got rid of well paid people replacing them with lower paid people to do the exact same job
