Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Severance

Severance package is completely unclear.
A packet is coming in the mail tomorrow.
Don’t bother calling HR, they won’t tell you anything to clarify.

They only have me 4 weeks severance pay. Is this normal and are others getting more? Just wondering if this is negotiable at all.

When it comes to severance, you really want to be in Canada. The laws up there protect the employees much better than they do in the US. Not uncommon to get 6 figures if you have been around for a number of years. That’s the people that Staples have been laying off for the last ten years or so, tenured people with higher incomes.

Nobody has posted the details of the severance package? How many weeks did they give?

Don’t hold your breath once you get the word you are dead to everyone still there. The machine moves forward doesn’t matter who is at the wheel and everyone is dispensable.

Yup. I don’t think anyone who didn’t complete a full year will get anything. I hope I’m wrong. We will find out tomorrow.

They wanted to make sure that we remember why we are thankful to not be with this id--tic company any more. The past year has been nothing but lack of direction and clarity. Just thought they would round out all our hard work with more confusion. The only thing that could make this better is if they start calling us back and asking us to come back and work for them in a new position. That would be pure comedy.
