Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

It's all about RTO stupidy!

With so many companies offering WFH including: NVidia, Oracle, Atlassian, Dropbox, Square, Cisco, HP, ZScaler, Xerox, why are employees so foolish for staying at Amazon?

On the flip side, why is Jassy so stupid about the consequences of losing top talent? Yes, of course: short-term bragging rights about positive cash flow and record profit to investors. With average attrition of no more than 1 year and hiring freezes through 2024, what do you think will happen?

Hint: birds migrate to move from areas of low or decreasing resources to areas of high or increasing resources...

Why don't you read? It's talking about hiring freezes for 2024 instead of one company-wide freeze. So some areas of the company won't be hiring and others will (presumably AI/ML teams teams, maybe not so much Alexa, D&S).

Asked another way, who in their right mind would RTO at Amazon when they can work remotely at Xerox, HP, and even Oracle? In fact, many are calling Amazon's bluff and taking a cut by going elsewhere to WFH for their own well-being. Then Amazon can claiming record profit because a record amount of employees leave. It's a fool's game in the end.

Make sense?

There is no freeze and who in their right mind would be "migrating" to Xerox, HP and even Oracle?

What's also stupid is that Jassy isn't offering RSU refreshers - he's just telling his staff to go on a pay cut after the big cliff. So even the non-top performers don't have incentive to stay. And if the RTO policies get more severe (like 5 days/week, no exceptions, all divisions), won't you regret not leaving sooner before being told to leave? If you leave now, you don't have to worry about any of that happening including the pay cut. Lots of teams aren't going to be hiring in 2024. It's become a top-talent bloodbath, when it should be the other way around. File a class lawsuit - discrimination based on location of residence and living circumstances (family, kids) instead of actual low performance. Investors are loving this Jassy trick until its consequences begin. Next trick: offshoring!
