Yes, I also hear Engineering is safe. Once non engineer jobs are sent to India, $30k bonuses for engineers. I also hear hiring many new engineers with $50k signing bonus

You are "safe" until you're not. I wouldn't necessarily count on the word of your director. The situation can change in a heartbeat. Karen has to be getting heat for the stock price. Since she has little business acumen, the only tool she knows to try to boost the profit figures are layoffs. Prepare for more, particularly because HR still has a workforce reduction group.
No great company lays off over 5000 employees or has a stock price that is cratering. You can live in your fantasy land (or just be a management shill), but the investors know things you apparently don't.
