Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Layoffs are hard.. but really?

Layoffs are hard. We are in the middle of nail biting days that start at 7am and end at 5-6pm, not knowing if my husband will get a teams message or an email from his lead letting him go. HOWEVER… I struggle reading these threads/comments that are rude and full of misinformation, then we decide that attracting anyone with a slightly positive outlook is going to benefit or change our circumstances.
2% (+ a small bit) of employee layoffs is not a huge amount. It seems CVS have been some what fair with severance and notice. Not thinking CVS will win any company of the year awards but this is very typical for many large companies. Survival without a job is impossible for most, and it’s scary when you don’t have a next move. BUT… enough with the “investors know more than you”… or “you can keep your head covered” comments. I believe most of us are on the same side.

Some anonymous id--t stated, "2% (+ a small bit) of employee layoffs is not a huge amount."

Are you really all that heartless and clueless?

The layoffs are a big deal to the 2% who were affected. And, being the corporate shill you are, you failed to mention that no one in the ever-expanding C-suite took even a penny's cut in their salary, even though it was their leadership decisions which caused these layoffs!

Layoffs are not “typical” in any way. People need to stop sugar coating and normalizing it. Layoffs are due to a completely failed corporation and failed leadership.

AND, lets not forget the lie they put in the agreement: lay--f related to performance. Whatever, I had outstanding reviews and would have known if I was on a performance plan. CYA C-S/Aet-a, ridiculous!

Are you implying that this is a nothing burger or a bit of indigestion?

2% is a small number. But how about the company lay off the bottom 2% of employees based on performance reviews? Why lay off employees that consistently "Exceed expectations"? Why cut a job category and then post the same position in the same department? Getting a call from two different consulting firms saying I would be perfect for this "new position" was a slap in the face. I'm glad for my friends who still have jobs but let's face it - none of this was fair. No one has job security at the company unless you're a CVS software engineer.

Agree. Only Engineers will be retained in US. Once Aetna and CVS jobs are in India, Oak Street will hire more Engineers and give $50k signing bonuses

If husband is not an Engineer, get ready for layoff. His salary will be used for Engineering raises and $30k bonuses. Maybe you and husband can relocate to India once his position is relocated?

I think that your post is super valid! The perspective of 2% helped me feel a lot more at peace. We totally all are in this together — this forum is a place for us to help one another! Thanks for your realistic outlook!

Can you please explain what you mean by the enough with the “you can keep your head covered” comments? Respectfully asking because if I have been discouraging others I want to stop that and maybe I said something unkind without meaning to or realizing. Thank you. I understood the investors thread.
