Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Look at the whole package!

Many job offers come with a lower title and base salary, but make up for it with a generous bonus and stock options that vest quickly.

Even though the title may not be as prestigious, the total compensation can actually be higher if you're willing to take some compensation as stock grants on a quarterly basis instead of just cash salary.

So don't rule out positions just because of a lower title - look at the whole package.

BC’s motto is “STFU and get back to work”

Don’t like it, leave you organic piece of shït. Leaving will accelerate your entire job function being replaced by AI.

If you hung around this long, you should know the beast you are getting in bed with. If you don’t, lesson learned.

Now, “STFU and get back to work.”

Someone gotta bïtch slap these toxic assets called employees.

Now that folks know that BC are sending out low-ball offers in direct contravention of the merger contract, for those that are yet to receive an offer - how does this impact your decision making, if at all? Just wondering.

In my case, I’ve now started looking elsewhere so if I get an offer I will most likely turn it down.

VMware have many incompetent people at P6/P7. I am sure less than 1% of them will reject BC offer. They a not capable of even clear any external interviews and get same TC outside. They are coasting in vmware since many years. Rejecting BC offer is total BS.

This post is hilarious. The suggestion that people should be happy with an offer of a lower base salary (predictable) with a higher bonus and RSUs (speculative) is beyond silly. I’m guessing your are a troll because no sensible person would think this way unless the potential upside is massive, which is does not appear to be.

Seriously, are you BC HR?

AVGO are famous for not paying high levels of bonus, wave goodbye to 120%, say hello to 75% and having to prove overachieve for that

And for that matter, doesn’t the merger contract between Broadcom and VMware commit Broadcom to pay at least the same base salary? If Broadcom aren’t willing to honor contracts with their future employees then what does that say about how they will treat their customers?

100%. It's clear and they just breached it and said F-U, come and sue us if you want, in their FAQ. I hope people take them up and try to sue these arrogant pr1cks.

RSUs are great but at some point even the great Hock is going to blow it. And many know that VMware just is not worth even one quarter of what is on offer. VMware may well destroy Broadcom. What will the RSUs be worth then?

If you're like me, sc--w the title, sc--w the role, take the zero wokeness job environment and GET PAID - I love Broadcom <3

Say pandemic didn't happen and no shortage for Chips, and AI demand didn't choke the already stressed out chip market, and the AVGO was half the price of what you are awarded, Would you still be happy they cut your base and title?

Because, Tech companies had their fun with AI, now it is for them to get their return on investments, if not this is going to take the same route as NFTs, Metaverse (not META, but yeah META too). AVGO will be half the price what it is awarded to the incoming employees by the time they accumulate any decent amount. You can see why incoming employees will not be happy with the base cut, right? you see a logic there or you still find it hard to understand?

As a Broadcom employee, this is exactly how Broadcom HR would sound like lol. They played with our titles and roles a lot when we got "integrated", but one thing is no lie - compensation works out strongly for employees if you're still here after the first year.

What if there is no job description for the generic title? What if you don't know know your manager would be? What if you have a two hour commute in winter weather when you've been working from home for years? Would you accept ANY under under those circumstances

Look RSUs are like icing on the cake, they are meant to be an additional incentive for performance or even a way to ensure loyalty. I don't see that as my base salary.

Yeah, the bonus is optional for AVGO to pay out so actually the low-ball offers are a bit of a scam, aren’t they? And for that matter, doesn’t the merger contract between Broadcom and VMware commit Broadcom to pay at least the same base salary? If Broadcom aren’t willing to honor contracts with their future employees then what does that say about how they will treat their customers? If I was a VMware customer I would be quite worried.

Lower base lower title….lower severance when they cut your a-s
Bonus and stock is variable so they are not on the hook for these at all. Could be more but could be way fn less.
