"We are top performers who are important. Truthfully, we don't get as much as we deserve. Imperfect world."
Umm, you need to look into the mirror and see reality, you are getting more than you deserve and are lucky to have a job still

"I am a top performer. " You should reevaluate your performance.
OP if you have to ask this question you are not kissing enough rear end. Some people who work hard get them but most play the political game to get them.
My area must be different. Everyone I work with gets them. If we don't get an increase every year, we put up a major stink and they do right by us the next year.
We are top performers who are important. Truthfully, we don't get as much as we deserve. Imperfect world.
Not true. My unit doesn’t give them out, Hardly at all. I’ve gotten them once but people talk. Last year when people were supposed tog eat huge raises, we did not. And I’ve never heard from anyone else who has gotten shares here. I am a top performer. My unit is just shady.
I'm a long-time Fido employee and have never played politics, probably to the detriment of my overall career. But I've received chairman's shares many times.
I think "People who get them play the political/popularity game or are near powerful people who are also good," is an unfounded argument.
Someone mentioned “high performers” get them. Don’t let that fool you into thinking people who work hard and execute well get them. Sometimes they do. But chairman shares are a political thing. People who get them play the political/popularity game or are near powerful people who are also good.
"high up management" doesn't get chairman's shares. Chairman's shares go to level 6 and below.
In my business unit 50-60% get shares. If you are not getting them it is because you are seen as below average performer with little future potential. If you are a star they will load you up to keep you around.
You will hardly ever see them unless you are high up management. Especially not in certain business units.
If you have been awarded shares, your manager should let you know during your performance review. The shares will show up on your NetBenefits with the amount, value and when they will payout.
*$30/share not $39
Depending on your level they either pay out in 2 years (6 and below)or you get them for 3 years and they pay out every year (7 and above). You'll get an email and they show on Netbenefits. Been about $39/share the past few years.
