Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Deal will be postponed

Deal will be delayed. It will not be closed soon, and also it will not die immediately.
In case it is postponed for one month, how the company can function with half with offers and half without...

Looks like there is a plan B what that plan is i will not be able to predict as as per my understanding there cant be plan B ..The fact of the matter is without approval from China the deal can not be closed. The guy who is saying India , US and UK entity are separate does not understand the Product Business. Product are not owned by local subsidiaries. How can China subsidiary will make a contract out of VMware products and how they will be selling. The only Plan B which is i can think of be ready with all the Arsenals to close the deals and there is a hope that approval may come in next six to 8 hrs. If it doesnt , may be a matter of week or two. After all this chaos chances of deal termination is less than 5 %. Any ways there would be too much lobbying and as a good gesture China will approve before Xi Biden meet and also forbids some one like HT to not a give statement what he did just a month ago

My bet is that the deal will close sometime after Xi and Biden meet in San Francisco in November.

The title literally says "China’s foreign minister says Xi-Biden meeting in San Francisco would not be ‘smooth-sailing’"

Both companies can keep going after Nov. 26 by mutual agreement. VMware will certainly agree, so it will be up to Hock. Broadcom would be on the hook for a $1.5B termination fee if Hock decides to walk away.

Per the merger agreement the deal cannot be extended past 18 months from the bid date, so Nov 26 is the final date after which deal is permanently terminated.

not necessarily, that can be extended if both parties agree, but sure either party can walk away, should they fell they need exit and figure out an alternative strategy.

"Deal will be delayed. It will not be closed soon"

27 November 2023 is the outside date. There is nothing to postpone until that date.

"how the company can function with half with offers and half without..."

The same as it did before offers went out. People are still employed by VMware. Employees have to work. If you don't work, you can be fired. If you get fired, you don't get severance. ;)
