Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Does anyone know what the severance contract they have you sign includes?

I’m specifically curious if they forbid you to talk about the company negatively as that will be hard lol. Thanks.

Yep, nothing negative, especially on social media. When I was let go I said something nasty on Facebook and a director found out about it. They said my severance would be in danger. I took their severance and haven't stopped talking trash about them since.

IPS made a post called What Happens Now (Historical Perspective) and told us a few days ago. Obviously, IPS is high up at Cengage because everything posted comes true.

From IPS:
You will receive a package via overnight delivery with documents to sign that must be sent back to Eagle's Nest before you can receive severance. I just want you to know that it may be pulled if you speak negatively about the company.

Things have changed since previous severance agreements. So don’t go by other people’s past experience. Fully research it yourself. https://www.nlrb.gov/news-outreach/news-story/board-rules-that-employers-may-not-offer-severance-agreements-requiring

From my Cengage Severence Contract from last year:
"You agree to treat as confidential and not disclose the terms, contents, or execution of
this Separation Agreement and General Release, except as required by law, other than to
your spouse, counsel, or tax advisor, with the understanding that he or she will maintain
the confidentiality thereof. You also agree to refrain from disparaging or holding up to
ridicule the name of the Company, its successors, and its current and former officers,
directors, attorneys, agents and employees (the Company and these individuals are
referred to as “Protected Parties”), and will not bring publicity to matters of the Company
by communicating, directly or indirectly, with the press, on “blogs” or through any other
media, concerning the Company. If you receive any inquiries from any member of the
press or of any other media, you will not respond to it substantively, and will instead refer
the inquiry to the Company. Notwithstanding the foregoing or anything else in this
Separation Agreement and General Release, nothing in this Separation Agreement and
General Release shall be construed to prohibit you from initiating, participating or
cooperating in any legal or administrative proceeding, except that to the extent permitted
by law, you waive your right to any individual monetary relief or other individual remedies
in connection therewith"
