EUC BU Key Challenges Explained

Perhaps you're wondering why the VMW End User Computing group is in focus.

The Leading Industry Analysts have described the legacy Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) markets as saturated and obsolete (when compared to modern SaaS alternatives).

Due to declining customer interest, Gartner, IDC, and Forrester no longer closely track these products. Most analysis is focused on harvesting the legacy vendor installed base. That's why this VMW BU has limited upside potential, and why we are anxious employees. Please show some empathy for our troubling situation. Thank you.

"Maybe you can join the mainframe team at BC?"

That sarcasm is not helpful. Please stop.

FYI, I'm relatively new to this BU, in the EUC sales team. There are a lot of smart people here, but most of the leadership has been in the same kind of role for decades. In our team meetings, they celebrate employee years of service, but nobody shares new ideas.

The culture is very change resistant. Over the last year, it's been a revolving door of frontline folks. During the pandemic (before I arrived) there was a small burst of unsustainable growth. Now, we simply focus on our own and the Citrix installed base.

Which is why I'm confused by one thing. If Broadcom Software is an expert at reducing costs and harvesting the installed base of old software apps, then why don't they want the EUC BU? That's really all that's left. Extract profit from loyal customer CIOs that can't be bothered to change.

Hmm, sympathy for knowingly continuing your career on a dead technology. That is not a recipe for success.

Even Gartner doesn’t give a sh-t anymore.

You should have got out ages ago.

Maybe you can join the mainframe team at BC?

"Who and what do you think you’re benefiting by this?"

We're removing the mystery of why our EUC BU is a topic that keep resurfacing. We're helping our anxious employees attain empathy from their peers at VMW.

Hopefully, the benefit is a better understanding of our unique situation. We're different than the core BUs that are likely to be more appealing to AVGO leadership and investors.

“We're just trying to explain why our BU's team is anxiously awaiting some news about our future.”

It sounds more like you’re putting it out to pasture on a public forum and making everyone else that is part of that BU needlessly worried about their future. Who and what do you think you’re benefiting by this?

Airwatches market dominance is being completely dismantled by Microsoft Intune and having botched cloud desktops badly with no time to catch up to market leaders someone will be able to make money off of on-prem deployments but that is it.

"Or have you had your head in the sand for the last 5 years?"

Please don't be sarcastic or judgmental. We're just trying to explain why our BU's team is anxiously awaiting some news about our future. To date, VMW shift to cloud apps has been disappointing. Shankar and his team have been 'creative' with the numbers.

You are aware that WS1 is predominantly a SaaS solution aren’t you, with more and more customers migrating their legacy on prem WS1 to the cloud solution, with all the additional capabilities and use cases that can support? Or have you had your head in the sand for the last 5 years?

"I think you’ll find that the analysts are still very much interested in these areas."

That may be true to some degree, but not on dated apps like WS1 and Horizon. Any remaining growth in this market will be on lower-cost and less complicated streaming apps. Industry analysts have said over and over that legacy apps require too many IT resources to manage effectively. WS1 Intelligence has very limited customer adoption.

I think you’ll find that the analysts are still very much interested in these areas. It is acknowledged they are stable and mature markets, but are still very much required and will be here for many many years to come. The total addressable market is projected to reach over $50 billion in 2030, from about $4 billion in 2020!
While there are still end points, there will still be the requirement for end point management solutions.
I don’t know the point of your post other than to troll people in the EUC business. Sad times

Totally agree with analysts comments. It’s a niche use case and declining. SaaS apps are the norm. Access to apps over HTTPS outside broker is only way now. Google apps are number 1 for enterprise and office365 is pants. Either way EUC is dead. Skill up on other tech.
