Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The reasons for no offers after 24th

Possible speculations are:

  1. There are errors in offers, which they'd like to avoid next time. For example random manager assignments etc.
  1. The offer/portal/FAQ asks people to reject offer (by resigning) and yet be subject to severance pay. Yet, the severance pay available is only US specific. This could lead to legal issues, since you're asking for people to quit based on something that doesn't exist.
  1. There are no more offers to give out. The next batch is severance offer. It would help if the severance plan is available across all geographies.
  1. Broadcom/VMW are incompetent.
  1. Other reasons.

Just because folks are asking these questions doesn’t mean they are holding out hope or are desperate for an offer.

I’d like to know if I’ve dodged the bullet and can wait for my layoff letter and can collect what is due to me.

There is no way I’m walking away from what is owed to me just because of the uncertainty.

Stop assuming we’re all desperately praying for a pitiful offer letter.

Tbh, the most reasonable explanation for the stopping of the offers is that those were all that BC had to send away. Bear in mind that they could only send the offers to 6 territories due to the different labor legislations (USA, Canada, Singapur, India, UAE & Taiwan) so it'd be fair to assume that anyone in these 6 countries that have not yet received an offer, will be laid off as early as the acquisition is closed. For the rest of the countries, the letters (the 3 possible options) will only come after the deal is done.

odd that they stopped all the offers suddenly. People are speculating whether they completed the entire batch, it's possible they did but lot are anxious.

What a mess, they should've done everything on the same day, either you're gone or you get something.

There was no reason to create so much anxiety and chaos.

Please move on friends. Collect your money from severance and search for some good opportunities with solid product plans. Many good people in VMW with solid experience will land in better places.

Its sad to leave VMW, but we all are professionals, and there is nothing called as a company family. Its just a job, and you will find one in few months.

For all those who got the letter, please search for jobs too. BCM is a tech equivalent of a clothing factory in China. There will be more layoffs in coming months where severance will be according to BCM terms and as you have not been employees there for long, it will be max 2/4 weeks. This happened to CA, this happened to Symantec and will happen again. If you are a good developer/sales/mkting/finance person with good experience. My advice is to resign and collect the money. Good opportunities are waiting out there, it may take a few months, but you will have the severance money.

Keep your sanity and dont lose yourself. This is a just a job and not your life.

Folks, for the countries that started offers on 23rd and 24th, there's no more offers rolling out.

This thread is copium.

Please move on. This is for your own good.

Folks in other regions/countries your schedule is going to be driven by country legislation.

In one possible scenario, AVGO could decide to retract the prior job offers if the decision to abandon the acquisition becomes the only viable (less costly) solution.

There is a cost to AVGO for these ongoing delays. A terminated deal may be less expensive to AVGO. No point in pouring more into this money pit. It's a lost cause.

I'm truly sorry that so many of you are going through this. But at some point you will need to let it go and plan for the future. If you haven't already, polish up the resume, reach out to your network, start applying for positions and use the skills you gained at VMware to your advantage. I know it su-ks. I've been laid off several times and when I first saw the acquisition announcement I started looking for a new job. Yes, it was painful having to leave VMW but it was better than being laid off again.

Best of luck to you all.

Literally thousands of offers haven't been sent out yet. EUC and SBU are the most obvious. Go take your tea leaves somewhere else.

I do not think it is over.

For instance, Carbon Black offers do not go out until Friday 10/27... at the earliest. They may go out significantly after that.

“ Now only emea offers yet to go” is both a broad brush and an incorrect statement. UAE is part of the EMEA Geo, and communications were released there earlier this week alongside those circulated to employees in US, Canada, India, Singapore and Taiwan. Those 6 also encompass some - but by no means all - of APJ, meaning that other communications for that Geo are still to be released. And in addition to this, I’ve seen nothing yet pertaining to LATAM - meaning that AMER is not complete either.

I received an offer with the incorrect manager, a title with no job description and a vaguely worded warning that I will PROABLY need to commute an hour to a Broadcom office from which I would make Zoom calls. No response from Broadcom HR email with clarification.

Yeah, it's over. People who've not received offers are being laid off.

Stop wasting your time on this site and go find an interview to take.
