Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Nielsen is running us ragged

I couldn’t do it any longer- I got another job in preparation for the impending doom of layoffs around the corner. I’m juggling both until I decide to officially leave Nielsen or Nielsen decides to cut off my department and outsource our department to India or Mexico or whatever the rumors are. Nielsen isn’t being loyal to me as an employee, why should I be loyal to them?

I have news. Other companies? Their employees don’t have “the look” of immense stress all over their bodies. I didn’t even realize it until I walked into the new company. They’re actually organized. They’re actually happy. They actually have hope for a future. Their systems actually work. Their CEO’s actually care about them. Their workload is actually manageable.

Yes, that’s actually possible.

I don’t blame us: the current employees. What is being asked of us is too much. We’ve been with Nielsen through the thick and thin. We’ve gotten us out of huge problems. Not even a mention more than general acknowledgment at a town hall? Not even a small celebration? We’re not connected enough to our remote teams. All leadership wants is more. The ask is the impossible, yet we do it…. The expectation is too high with no job security at the end of it, yet we do it.

It’s an abusive work relationship.

Watching the town hall at Nielsen and seeing my supervisor/managers/leaders look like they’re dying from stress from working 3 people’s jobs, being paid what feels like pennies of what they deserve. They just watched all their coworkers get cut after years or decades of service with no warning. They’re trying to stay positive but we can all tell that there’s little positivity left.

Then going to the other company I’m seeing something I haven’t seen at Nielsen for a long time. We lost something during covid that I don’t think is ever going to come back.
Nielsen has long forgot about the employees. We came from catered lunches, fun work parties/get togethers and a good work atmosphere, to now. Nielsen pushing us beyond our capacity, with no connection, with no reward and no budget for even a small remote party. We haven’t gotten even a cup, a shirt or anything from Nielsen in years to even make us feel like we’re a part of anything bigger or part of a work community. It doesn’t take much, really.

I think everyone has been here so long they don’t realize how much Nielsen is kicking the employees while we’re down. The morale is at its lowest and they’re doing nothing to change it except for asking for more speed from the employees. Everyone is so burnt out.

It’s not worth it. There’s better places out there.

Wish you all the best in your job search.

Not to mention the ridiculous amount of money they spend on training MRs and Techs. I went to Florida TWICE for training in September and August. For something that could have been done virtually! Not to mention it’s 2 weeks long. I almost think they know it’s over and are throwing money away for tax purposes or something.

Your post brought tears to my eyes this morning, OP. You said everything so eloquently and precise to how we are all feeling, and I thank you for that! I’m so happy you found a place that is a nurturing and fruitful atmosphere and are finding happiness in your work life! I’ve been on the fence about looking elsewhere myself, after nearly a decade under my belt, but when the leader that was my reference to Nielsen all those years ago said to me “Get out now, and do not look back!” After the last fiasco of layoffs, I’ve been teetering more towards it’s time to reinvigorate my professional career elsewhere!

Nielsen's treatment of employees is not only a matter of management preference. They have an obligation to be fair and treat employees within the legal framework of government contractors. The company has several federal contracts with agencies like the FCC. Recently they had to settle with job applicants for being provably biased in their employment practices: Nielsen To Pay $570K To Settle DOL's Race Bias Allegations is a recent headline.

Former Nielsen. I knew years ago sitting in the office on my 10th anniversary unacknowledged that this company was over. I'd have a few more anniversaries like that in the future. So glad I'm gone.

This is so upsetting. No raise. No mention in the Town Hall about finances. But THESE “Leaders” are living ‘la vida Loca’. Wonder where they are staying? Wonder where they are entertaining themselves ? I find this really really disturbing and distasteful

There are definitely better companies out there, but please be careful of your mental health in thinking ANY company actually cares about you. I’m middle aged and I’ve worked at many places that started out pretty good and then went sideways, just like Nielsen. Don’t expect loyalty to you, from anywhere. Don’t let any future company changes make you feel less than or that you’ve done something wrong. It’s just the way corporate America is (I’m assuming you’re in America). Congrats on your new job! I hope it lasts for a long time, with this much positivity. Good luck! And double dip as long as you can, pad your bottom line.

Couldn’t have said it any better.

And to see all the so called global leaders being flown into Florida for a week!

Wonder where they got the money for that when they can’t even pay us a proper salary!!!!
