There are two possibilities:
One, BC believes the deal will be delayed and their waiting until the last second in hopes the PRC can somehow be bribed or coddled so they can still close. In this case, they cancelled the AH because awkward questions would be asked and there are legal and financial implications if they lie (or even if they accidentally tell the truth) and it gets out into the public.
Two, they're aware of how toxic everyone thinks the process has been and they're afraid of losing control of the meeting. There are a lot of people who are frustrated and the C-level folks at VMware aren't good at handling the kind of response they'd be likely to get.
Either way, the fact that it was cancelled and not rescheduled speaks volumes about how much they really care about EPIC2 values. Which is to say, less than none at all. Not that I ever believed that nonsense--I've worked in tech long enough to know not to drink the kool aid.
