Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Why Return to Work?

Interesting read showing that companies are using increasing in office time as a way to get employees to quit rather than lay them off.

It’s another form of “Quiet Cutting”. Basically CC is doing things to upset employees (return to work, move headquarters, assigning different and lesser roles, etc.) so that the employee quits. It’s a lot cheaper than them giving you a severance. This could also explain why the long severance period — people get too nervous to wait it out for fear that the job market is going to be hard, so they leave on their own in the meantime. Crown doesn’t pay severance, RSUs, bonus, etc and they don’t have the employee anymore. They probably didn’t get enough people quitting after the last RIF and said, “how much more can we torture them before they cry ‘Uncle!’?”

If we all said we were going to take the relocation package, they would probably freak out and have to throw in another layoff.

Some were HIRED as hybrid. It was the job as offered, not a temporary perk. Can't blame people for expecting the company to adhere to the mutual job agreement.

It has nothing to do with that company. Companies across all industries feel that having employees in the office is best for them. Stop whining and get a job at a company that has positions that don’t require office time. Problem solved. But no, people at CC got used to remote work and couldn’t bring themselves to change. Even though they were fine with in office work prior to this pandemic nonsense.

If you follow another company in this industry (starts with an A and ends with a T) CC is following in their footsteps. If you want to know what is next just watch that company.
