There's a palpable sense of tension at Meta right now. Rumors are swirling that widespread layoffs are imminent, potentially affecting 10-15% of the workforce. That would equate to over 10,000 employees across all functions and teams. With the current economic climate, finding a new job right now would be extremely difficult, especially for those on visas who may only have 60 days to find something new. Many employees seem distracted and unfocused, myself included. The uncertainty hanging over everyone's heads is taking a toll.
While Meta has its critics, most employees are just regular people trying to earn a paycheck. We didn't join out of some deeper allegiance to the company or its mission. At the end of the day, we're just workers trying to get by. If layoffs do come, I hope Meta provides adequate severance and support to help those impacted transition as smoothly as possible in this tough job market. The timing right before the holidays would be especially harsh. Here's hoping the rumors don't fully materialize.
