They can announce an extension as late as Friday so this isn't totally done yet. The problem here is that investors think the deal isn't going through and if BC had a plan they would've made a statement to boost confidence that they are going through without China. The fact that they have not clearly said this means they are undecided how to proceed.

Who said that current layoffs solely depend on the acquisition and broadcom. Whoever think they'd be ok if the deal falls through needs to grow up.

Nov. 26 is the last date at which either party can compel closing once all regulatory approvals have been obtained. However, both parties can agree to keep going after Nov. 26 and wait for China. VMware will keep going because they will not get a better deal anywhere else. However, Broadcom could choose to pay the $1.5B breakup fee and walk away. My guess is that Broadcom will keep going too, but they could also try and renegotiate the deal back down to $69B because they are paying a lot more today because of the huge increase in the price of AVGO.
