Thread regarding Meta / Facebook layoffs

Headcount

Based on Meta's latest earnings report, their headcount as of September 30, 2023 was 66,185 - a 24% decrease compared to the same time last year. The substantial majority of employees laid off this year are no longer counted in that September headcount number. Looking back, Meta had around 86,000 employees in 2022 before the two rounds of layoffs that cut around 21,000 roles (11,000 followed by 10,000 more). So it seems like outside of the layoffs, Meta has not significantly grown or replaced headcount over the past year. The layoffs likely account for the bulk of the 24% year-over-year reduction, with minimal hiring happening in 2022 after the job cuts.

66K employees should be more than enough to do whatever they want.
