Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Expect more cuts

Enterprise and commercial sales are going to merge in Feb, they will be cutting the overlap....expect 20-30% more to be cut, maybe not all in Feb. The only new hires in sales or on SE side will come from college hire programs. The new commercial segment will look like the existing commercial segment, the Dell server teams will be the core people and storage will be specialty....that alone should scare anyone working for Dell. They will push more biz to the channel. Dell believes they spend way to much on sales, most of the revenue comes from the top 20% or so of the accounts. Dell is moving to a BestBuy approach for about 80% of their customers....Cisco, HPE and other top HW providers have similar model. Dell is currently working with SI's to figure out how to use AI to take over the technical part of the sale. I think Dell will get to their target GTM model within a year, covid slowed this process. This was the plan the whole time, don't kid yourself if you think WFR was due to a bad economy.

Bumping this for good info from @3xcf+1pbiewVQ.

@7rxu+1pfu787A : "There aren't enough hands to facilitate this change."

AI Org is being formed. I can assure you that in immediate future, there will changes.
If it is implemented right, changes will get rid of many redundancies.
Looking at Dell's track record, I fully expect EMC political veterans to botch up this attempt to modernize the company too.
So you are right.

"the Dell server teams will be the core people and storage will be specialty"

Considering the DCCS team was all but eliminated, this is highly doubtful. There aren't enough hands to facilitate this change.

I don’t think Gillian stands a chance. Angela will take over all Gov, Ent, and commercial with limited number is resources, doing double the work.

Jillian will get it. She’s the perfect female figurehead. Yay diversity!

The consolidation of enterprise and commercial is happening. Jillian and Christian will compete for ownership.

Core reps and dcs / storage people will be consolidated and overlap will be cut. Sales, specialty and presales will all be hit.
20-30% worldwide is conservative.

Cobra is around $650 a month for single individual.

for fam coverage you are looking into 20 benjies a month

Who really knows when the next WFR will be, and who it will effect? Be assured there will be one. Please, just to be safe, prepare for the What If Scenario. COBRA is very, very expensive, create your own separate savings account for medical costs. If it never happens you will have a little extra savings, if it does happen to you, at least your better prepared. In the past, Dell has paid for two months, and you must ask for it, but 2 months is nothing. We all know some one that was affected by a WFR, just ask them how much COBRA is a month

Isn't it funny how the ones that are liked by the leadership teams are being promoted into management roles. It's the same guys who do f all and get away with it. Yet, the hard working individual who are working way past the working hours are the ones that are being told to go??

Where is the logic ?

Whether some rumor is true or not : is not the problem.
It doesnt matter if you get laid off tomorrow or in 2 months.
Regardless of timeline, treat it as signals for you to make plan B.
The problem is governance. The reason for layoff and the method it adopts and the target employees is where the issue lies. All these converge to the top layers.
Even Faang companies have replaced their top layer after 2 yrs of not meeting goals. And they did it again. But in Dell, it seems like someone else is paying the cost.

I work for Dell. That is how it works. The person who originally posted their prognostications has no idea how Dell works.

Because Dell works differently in each Geo
I guess that will be harmonized

Understood.

After the announcements about HPE going to the Partner Community for Sales, it definitely spooked a lot of folks in Sales here at Dell. I am on the Enterprise Sales side of things.

@1mry+1pfu787A Maybe the OP is wrong around the re orgs but I work for Dell and the rumour mill is going into overdrive.
People are waiting for the HR email to come but this time a lot are hoping it will come.
Dell treats staff like cr-p.
Its pretty simple.
They talk a good game but shareholders are the only one they really care about.
I dont underatand why people care about a company like this? Your a number in a report.Thats it.Nothing more.

As I stated in my previous post:

"Server Team will be Core? Server Teams ARE a Specialty. Storage Teams ARE a Specialty. You have Core SEs and Core AEs that work with Specialties."

I work for Dell. That is how it works. The person who originally posted their prognostications has no idea how Dell works.

Yeah. This is someone who is writing way beyond his depth.
It's deliberate fear mongering disguised as pseudo information.

someone writing it apparently neither works for Dell nor understands current structure

as someone stated - setup you have is core+specialities since the beginning

reduction of costs will progress as revenue decline or margine decline takes place however that is nowhere clear

The merge of orgs rumor is not just a rumor, it’s happening and will result in large overlaps in roles . You can deny it but it’s still going to happen and there will be significant cuts in sales and leadership. Network outward , don’t wait to see if you’re on the list before connecting with those that can help you move into your next role. I’d say try not to stress yourself out but stay prepared… I know, easier said than done.

The Channel is being pushed more and more.Everything is going online first.
Why wouldnt they cut sales staff?
Look Dell will have to cut numbers.I work in Sales and its really tough at the moment.
Even top sellers are struggling.
WhilenI dont think it will be 20/30% I do think it will is coming.
Amazon dont have self serve checkouts in store and keep staff at the till.
More like 10% sales cuts and overlay.
Customer can pretty much self serve.

When you say:

"Dell server teams will be the core people and storage will be specialty"

Server Team will be Core? Server Teams ARE a Specialty. Storage Teams ARE a Specialty. You have Core SEs and Core AEs that work with Specialties.

Not buying this one.
