this has nothing to do with merit. It's simply being in the right place at the right time. You may be an amazing employee but if you're in the wrong BU you're going to be sent packing.
Uhhh, yeah. The Workstation/Fusion team was based in Palo Alto and consisted of a lot of good engineers that had been at VMware since the very early days. Do you not know what happened to that team when VMware move the product development to Bejing to save money? Or what happened to the Bejing team that inherited the products when they were moved to Bangalore, again to save money.
Layoffs based on being in the wrong place at the wrong time have been going on in VMware for quite a while. I wouldn't expect BC to be any different.
It's obvious that a LOT of folks here have never experienced an acquisition. Even in the best of circumstances (this is absolutely NOT one of those) they are soul su-king.
If you liked your job at VMware, that will die with integration.
If you liked the VMware brand, that will die with integration.
If you liked your colleagues, that will die with integration.
If you're just looking to hold down a 9-5, then sure...it'll be fine. If you actually aspire to continue to be VMware within Broadcom, you need to resign yourself to the fact that that not possible.
Despite what leadership has told you, VMware was not a well-run company, and Hock is going to expose this for the world to see.
