Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Maternity benefits

Hello,
Has anyone who has had their offer from Broadcom, got any information on what this means for maternity benefits?

I am due to have a baby early next year and was hoping they may honour the VMware family leave policy....

Here in Spain, when CA was bought out by Broadcom we realized that Broadcom's private health insurance did not cover the family, only the employee.
We lawyer'ed up and very politely and respectfully, asked them to include our family with the private health insurance and surprisingly they did.
It seems with Broadcom that if you ask very politely and not threaten them with labor unions they will respond better.
The company car issue with Symantec in Germany caused Broadcom to close all of their offices and fire the employees because they got their labor unions to demand company cars.

What makes you think you are entitled to anything for reproducing?
Other people are losing jobs and you are still keeping yours and getting benefits too

I have been sent the details of what I am "entitled" to currently, do BC not have to honour that?

I am not sure what VMware's maternity policy is but there is no maternity leave policy at Broadcom (in US). You will get the basic state maternity leave policy you are in. For example in California, you will get the standard state policy which is 12 weeks unpaid, job-protected leave and you will need to use the SDI and PFL benefits.

I'm also due early next year. I am so sad that I'm missing VMware's leave. We foolishly waited early last year given the news of Broadcom - I thought the acquisition would close sooner and didn't want to be pregnant while layoffs were rumored. Then in May we gave up waiting... terrible terrible life timing. I truly hope Broadcom has more than just the two weeks of leave stated on Blind (ie. nothing, so it defaults to FMLA or the state you're in)

Both you and your baby will be expected to put in at least 60 hours a week, 120 combined. No holidays and no vacations.

It will be the Broadcom parental leave policy which varies by country and province. Impossible to answer without knowing where you're domiciled.

They will not be honoring VMware policies. Already everyone traveling to Barcelona is getting adjusted to their Travel policy.

Slack

in:#broadcom-acquisition-unofficial maternity leave

That's a lot faster, easier, and more accurate than asking this site.

Looks like VMware benefits will extend until end of 2023. After that it will be Broadcom benefits of which we do not know.

There is really no need to be rude. There are a lot of rumors circulating and so it's easy to miss stuff. It's a stressful time - get with it.

I'm in a similar situation and inquired about getting grandfathered in to vmware's maternity/paternity policy and was told no. when broadcom takes over, we're on broadcom's policy. if anyone has gotten an offer, would love to know what that looks like...

No one knows this information yet, it's been stated time and time again. Get with it.
