I used to like working here. We were encouraged to work together and help each other. Now it's every man for himself. I feel like managers are now trained to throw you under the bus at any opportunity just to protect themselves. Add to this the lack of job security, and it becomes clear that this is not the same company I joined a decade ago.

With all of these negative employee feelings and sentiment about Citi, an employee who maintains accounts and even mortgages or car loans at Citi are Svckers. Citi is taking food out of your and your families mouths but you continue to help Citi. Svcker!
According to the Q3 reports Jpmorgan Chase is hiring up 6% in # of employees as of the end of Q3 for total employees 300,000 worldwide. They're also profitable, makes money and knows how to control expenses/fat while not cutting bone unlike Citi. Time for me to polish my resume and impress JpmorganChase.
Wondering if big wave of employee cuts coming soon. This week the large weekly staff meeting cancelled with no explanation while budgets keep reducing monies for next year.
To the OP, this is one of many reasons why I refuse to participate in outings, including at sports venues, lunches at restaurants, pot lucks, dinners, etc.. I do Not want Citi to think it's doing me any favors when at the turn of a dime, I could get laidoff or fired ! I do Not want to participate in the two-faced Bullsh-t activities. Make no mistake, if or when you participate in these events the MDs and D's are assessing your promotion, bonus and salary increase worth and eligibility. It's a lot like the college admissions game or job interviewing. Every touch point and interaction is an opportunity to reject you because the job of admissions and hiring managers is to look for reasons to reject you NOT admit you.
I'm positive I'm not the only employee who has this sentiment or thinks this way, but I've been doing quiet quitting and holding off on executing certain solutions or strategies to make work more efficient or solve business problems. Why should I do so only to be possibly fired/laid-off and then Citi reaps the benefits of me going above and beyond the bare minimum of my work duties??? For some people who don't know, quiet quitting means doing the bare minimum amount of work without making it obvious and also working at a slower pace. As someone else here posted, Companies sh00t themselves in the foot when they do layoffs because at least some employees will do quiet quitting. Which is one reason why most companies do Not announce layoffs and quietly and slowly layoff a few people at a time. But when employees notice that Billy Bob, John Smith and Mary Shmoe are suddenly no longer showing in MS Teams or the Global Directory it's a definite sign of firings. Since employees are Not bending over backwards and putting forward better business solutions this contributes to Citi being a mediocre bank at best always behind JPMorgan Chase, Goldman and Bank of America. "Teamwork" and collaboration are also inculcated to us throughout the year but when it comes to performance ratings, promotions, salary increases and bonuses we're graded on a curve because of the rationing of high ratings and promotions. Citi's Bullsh-t LIES and doublespeak as usual. Good luck keeping high quality and high performing employees. This contributes to Citi consistently being the underdog and mediocre at best.
I got laid off in March out of the blue after 21 years. Said my job was being discontinued yet a new hire 25 year old got all my work. This was my second layoff. Most likely my last as I have moved in from what used to me a nice place to work. They eliminate jobs and expect the remainder of the staff to su-k it up and take on even more work and be glad you have a job. Most of the staff was already doing 3 people’s work as people were leaving and not being replaced. I remember back in 2001 how different it was. Travel, Dinners, gifts (Yes Gifts). Then it all changed after 2009.
When I finished my mandatory 3 days in the office, I was in the parking lot and said Wow, I really hate this place now.
How long have you actually worked here? Most folks posting these diatribes seem like they must be younger and only at Citi a few years at most. I’ve been thru so many reorgs and layoffs, it’s just life in the corporate world. Not even unique to Citi.
Toxic work environment. No direction. No real work being done. Nobody talks to anyone. Managers are nowhere to be found and treating workers like cr-p. It may take 5 years for Citi workers to return to normal after layoffs. Every day is like torture. Execs have caused huge damage to productivity.
Citi is a sinking ship. Leadership miserably failed!
I got news for you, bub. You go somewhere else and they announce layoffs, you will see the same behavior. I can see many of you have been in this Citi bubble for a while. If you had worked other places, you'd see this is how corporate America is and therefore, makes everyone paranoid and all about themselves.
