I ran into a coworker who left Emerson a few months ago. They looked younger, healthier and happier than I had seen in years. Anybody else recognize how much healthier people look when they leave this dump?

I am happier, wealthier, calmer, and healthier. Leaving Emerson was a huge improvement on my life and my career. Can't believe I stayed there as long as I did. The culture is toxic, pay is sub-standard, and work-life-balance doesn't exist.
I was a contractor who left four years ago. I immediately made twice as much and worked half as much. Getting out was the best decision!
Years ago, whenever you bumped into a former collegue, we were joking how relaxed he/her looked, how rosy-cheeked and bright.
Then the day came when Emerson in its infinite wisdom closed the factory after over 30 years and sacked us all.
Being out for a couple of months now, I am feeling relaxed, enjoying my life after (yes, there is a life after Emerson), having time for friends, family again. Even my doctor asked what has happened to my blood pressure.
So apparently, it is not the worst situation getting out of Emerson, but an improvement on mental and physical health.
I feel better having left.
Working at Emerson was like working as a contractor.
We saw so many layoffs that we always thought that we were next.
Facts. One week after I left Emerson, I ran into my old coworker. He said that I looked younger and joked it was because I was no longer at Emerson. I didn’t say anything about my new job being lower stress or better environment at all. Just a glance at my face and he knew I was happier at my new job.
It changed my life to leave Emerson. Horrible place for mental health
