Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Real talent is being ignored

There is a lot of incredible talent VP/below ironically from more successful, larger IT companies that is overlooked each day. I've seen ideas completely disregarded from people who came from actually successful growth-oriented companies.

And this is why TD is failing. People who know what they're doing are ignored and those who got where they are through nepotism and cronyism are the ones who decide how to do things. It's a recipe for disaster.

The inept and insecured ELT/VPs/directors got rid of everyone who spoke up and tried to help ... only political survivors are hanging on until retirement.

I knew Cactus Jack Schemer. Before he helped found Tdat.

If the RIF machine is always in motion, why don't some of the experienced, talented staff (the ones who are overlooked or ignored per these posts) have the moxie to call out the worthless leaders in technology. I was lucky enough to have Jack Schemer as a mentor and he told me "in order to be successful as an entrepreneur, you have to come to work each day willing to be fired". If you read this and don't know who Schemer was, you clearly don't know the company's history.

this seems like a feature not a bug. Innovation and making efforts on the leadership side to put money into the risks, programs and changes that are lower in the chain, mean taking a big reputation risk with the board. Why do that when you can coast making money and ignore smart talented people since ignoring them requires no risk money or effort.

It’s going to be a long, painful spiral down. There is just enough cash and sales to circle the drain for a long time. I can’t image how anyone can stay there.

Travel freeze + Expense freeze are not signs of a growing business.

Throw in annual Teradata Nov Layoffs and the writing should be on the wall.

My manager is amazing. He is director level and even with staff in different cities, he is flying to see them paying his own way due to the travel freeze. He is even taking us out to lunch and paying for the lunch himself because of the expense freeze. The VP above him is clueless. We respect him, but not the VP
