Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Truth from the Core

I’m in core sales. I am telling the truth. I was told three weeks ago about my fate from my manager. I am one of the lucky ones and I will stay. My manager knew about a month ago. He is also staying. Those “in the know” already know. If you have not been told anything you will be laid off. What I am telling you is that there is a certain amount of people who know. People in the know are scrambling to find new roles. It is happening behind the scenes while the rest of you are trying to figure out what is happening. If you have not been approached yet then you are likely gone this upcoming week. I am telling the truth. Remember we are all equal but there are some more equal than others. Good luck to you all.

I am on Core Sales too. I have also been told I will get an offer. I also know for sure that the list of names to stay is changing EVERY day. My name could drop off... who knows until you have the offer.
I also know there are some that are getting offers in Core that have not been told.

I am 100% certain this blanket statement about being "in the know" is inaccurate.
As crazy as it is, changes are still happening.
Wait until people turn down the offers and take severance, then the list for that role starts over again.

I don’t work in sales but In recent 1:1 with my manager, he said those individuals in the company that had high chances of being let go would have been told by their managers to be prepared. Ofc it’s not official, but more of an advice, you don’t want to sell false hope as a manager if you know the chances are against you. So yeah nothing official has been sent to anyone in the company, but you can hear the whispers on the street.

Maybe he is right. We don’t know. Let’s see if the VMware executive staff will tell us the truth this week.
I am tired of watching their dance for their big checks.

I'm in Core sales. As of Friday, the peers in my team I speak with regularly did not know.

I know specialists that have already been told to start looking. Told by management that is staying.

"Core sales are actually gonna have to work in the new world and not live off of specialists and the BU doing their job. No more SE's just being meeting schedulers."

And then there are also core reps who are heavily reliant on the partners but sure like to act like the deals that came in were the direct result of their "hard work."

Yep. We trust you because you say you are telling the truth.

The point is not whether it's the truth or not. What is the purpose and value of conveying this information, aside from the sole intention of flexing and fear-mongering to those not 'in the know'?

I can confirm this post is what's happening. Also know a few in the same situation. Thanks for sharing it out.

I don't know if the converse is true - that if you did not get told, then you are getting laid off.

Most of core sales, heck most of the company, doesn't understand ACV and why ARR is king going forward or how to really make it grow.

If what you say is true and not BS to stir people up, I'm praying you're one of the few because of your one of the many, it's going to be a rough couple of years while we replace the sales folks that are kept.

TLDR:

  • Oh, look at me, I'm in "core sales" and I'm one of the chosen ones, along with my manager, of course.
  • If you're not part of the exclusive "in the know" club, you're basically expendable.
  • Those of us in the inner circle are playing musical chairs behind your backs.
  • If no one's tapped you on the shoulder yet, you're probably next in line for the chopping block.
  • Remember, we're all "equal," but some are just ridiculously "more equal." Best of luck, mere mortals!

"Remember we are all equal but there are some more equal than others." Mind-blowing. Thank you for your service. Idk what people would do without the brave men and women serving our sales teams. 🫡

This is how it was done in Symantec. The leader picked their Lieutenants, who then recruited their teams, who recruited their teams. This was about two weeks before job offers. Those that were getting job offers knew about it before they were received.

I agree with this post and I’m from marketing. Already manager told my fate weeks ago and I’m interviewing in other companies.

What a joke. If the non high-level people had started receiving offers by now, everyone would know about it. There's 37k employees. You can't keep this quiet. The 5 or 6 random people on the internet saying they received offers with absolutely no details provided are clearly just trolling. Forgive me if I don't believe them.

It’s well known that core sales is further ahead in the process than the BUs or specialist teams. While I know a number of folks in core sales that know their fate, it does not necessarily indicate that those who haven’t heard are toast. That said, I am in specialist sales and pretty much toast.

I don't know about you, but i make it a point to always believe anyone who starts talking to me by announcing "I am telling the truth." Anyone who doesn't explicitly announce they are telling the truth must be lying, this is how all criminals are caught.

I kind of agree with this post and OP. I and few of my team members have been informed to get BC offers 3 weeks before.

It may be true that you already know your fate. But if you don’t know your fate you’ll let go, is stupid and childish assumptions.

Of course everyone is replaceable. All I’m saying is they can’t get rid of us all day 1. Some of us would at least get a transitional offer, therefore, this post stating if you have not heard anything yet you pretty much a goner is inaccurate as I’m sure almost a majority of people have not heard anything yet.

you made me laugh. How essential you and your team are? LOL. The whole company would fall without you guys? In the world, no one but only you and your team know how to figure things out?

@OP+1pdteJIe wrong!
My team is considered “essential” — we cannot all be laid off (at least not immediately)
There will need to be a really sought out plan and it would be a process. Of course, some of us could be laid off, but others should at minimum get a transitional offer. We are all transparent amongst one another. Not one has gotten an offer of any kind. Everyone is still clueless of our future. Not saying no one in VMware has yet to get any sort of offer, perhaps some have been told already… but to say if you have not been told you probably don’t have a job anymore and will be let go is a complete lie!
