Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Should I explicitly tell my manager that I want to be laid off?

My manager is a micromanaging control freak. I don't want to work for him in the future in any way. I don't like him and I don't think he likes me either. He simply just picks on anything and everything I do.

Should I explicitly tell him that I want to be laid off?

No!
Your manager and his managers don’t have any influence. The reorganisation will already be documented. Keep quiet and deal with what comes.

My advice--your post makes me assume you're interested in advice from a random internet stranger--is to keep quiet and see what happens. Your manager could get laid off and you'll stay on reporting to someone better. You could both be laid off and you could find something better elsewhere. The only way this would make sense is if the least likely scenario plays out: you're both asked to stay. In that case, you could keep your head down and look for a new job while still employed. Really, there's no upside in sharing this.

Technically you are manager has nothing to do with BC decision.

Absolutely not, there's a good chance your manager will get laid off too but might keep that information to themselves to save face. Wait your manager out. BC is a flat organization and doesn't like hierarchy. Let things take it course and you might end up in a better situation with a better manager.
