Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm Hunger Games

Twice a year there is a lottery, and hard working, talented people are selected to pack up their offices and turn in their badges. It ki-ls morale and productivity. Creates hostility amongst co-workers, and has people suspicious of each other and their management. It destroys all sense of community and continuity. And every year there is a hiring splurge that everyone knows will lead to a lay off. So new hires are given only the information they need to know, or no training at all. Job security needs building an Empire, and making training docs that are so poorly written no one can actually learn from them.

Stop the Games!
Treat employees as if they are worthy, not disposable.
Make financially responsible decisions when the world stumbles coming out of a pandemic.

I left a few years back because every Monday you'd wonder if your Badge would work.

Got tired of that stress and hearing that the CEO was guiding us, and deserved big bonuses because his decisions are why QCOM made money.

Then the top 3 C level guys split $14 million, but then told those of us who met our goals "great job, but no bonus this year. Keep working hard".

If those three were responsible for us making a profit, they should get the shaft first if we don't meet earnings since that shows they are not doing their jobs.

Great way to ki-l employee motivation, though.

Q c-suite has failed to steer the company towards newer markets and diversify revenue.

There are too many useless and incompetent people in positions of leadership, i.e., manager and above.

The ONLY hope is for the board to bring in new leadership at the top from outside Q. That leader needs to clean house, fire the dinosaurs and get new leaders. The structure of Q needs to be reorged to be flat.

None of this is going to happen.

@OP: Once you build empire, you need to sustain it by fragmenting it into little groups, pitch them against each other. As long as they are involved in infighting, you are safe. That's how Q VP's operate.

@szc 🎯🎯🎯 crazy because I thought I was the only one, like maybe I was paranoid or overthinking... I agree though, I don’t blame them either, I just miss them tbh

They need to recycle so the path up the pirmid remains unchanged. Eliminate the competition before they make Sr dir/ vp s look bad. You are getting laid off to save their positions in the hierarchy. If you do to good a job that makes you a target.

OP valid point. People that I have worked with for years seem very suspicious these days. With all the layoffs that have happened, it feels like they only associate with you if you’re able to help them advance in their careers. Like they’ll take the long way just to pass your office so they won’t walk towards you and have to say hello. Like it’s not worth their time. Layoffs created this environment though so I don’t blame them 🤷‍♂️

Layoffs are about saving money and dealing with corruption when it comes to choosing who to evict
