What company would you go to if let go? That has a descent culture?

I'd go to one with a decent culture, not one that is moving downwards.
1hbm+1pbVRJGp I don't know my friend. I don't really think about it too much. I do think If you're an engineer, you have a higher probability of getting an offer letter than most. I suspect most developers and support engineers will get offer letters because if they let these engineers go, the customers will be in a world of hurt. Broadcom can't replace that knowledge quickly. We'll see soon I suppose.
If you're worried about it, start applying to other companies. And if you're in a department such as accounting, marketing, finance, HR, sales, internal IT, then you should definitely start looking now because those roles will become redundant in the eyes of a business leader.
@1out+1pbVRJGp do you think the deal will close on oct 30th?
The wait is getting un-bearable.
Can they run BC and VMware as separate entities for some time?
Waiting to see what happens personally. I'll take my severance and run if that's what it comes to. Otherwise I'll stick around for a bit if I get an offer, until I can find something better. It sounds like the Broadcom culture is pretty toxic but we'll see.
Regardless, I own a multi-million dollar business on the side so it's not a big deal to me. I honestly feel bad for the people who aren't prepared for this with a bunch of kids and living paycheck to paycheck.
If you have a good offer you should leave now.
It will help your mental health 100%.
Any company that has a competing product, and can use your skills. The competition is chomping at the bit and aggressively going after VMW market-share right now

I’m 23,I’ve been living at home and saved up some money, might go travelling and see where life takes me in the process. Cost of living is sky high in my country so id probably look for job opportunities abroad and move out in the process.
I would say Broadcom
Aquisition was blocked by China. You don't have to worry about massive layoffs anymore.
There may be still some layoffs by VMware, but it may be just 10% I guess.
Wherever Magoo goes
Stay at VMware. China blocked the deal. Its over.
