Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Linkedin & VMware

Hi,

Just on LinkedIn looking at the usual cr*p and see that someone has just posted an update that they are now a "senior support services manager" in VMware. How is there still promotions going on within VMware? This was posted 3 hours ago. Checked Slack & Teams he hasn't be changed from an engineer to a manager yet on it.

Some TSEs in EUC/other areas we're hired as SSMs to hire as backfill for open positions. They could be lying as well. Or just delayed in updating their Linkdeln. Our systems could just be delayed in updating current roles as the acquisition froze things or the manager forgot to get the new org for them updated.

People getting promoted right before a layoff is a gesture of kindness to help them go into their next role hopefully at a more senior position than they would have otherwise.
