Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Double dippin - Accept and start new job, don't tell VMW/BC

So I cut this from another thread to make it its own. I would never advocate this working for such an incredible org like VMW but its clear BC and Hock don't give two sh--s about us, about our livelihoods, or simply being a decent company a human company.....Radio silence while we wait to be sla-ghtered, laying us off with the rest of the 250k in tech gone this year right before the holidays. Take control, I say. "Its just business BC"

I have two solid opportunities hoping to get two offers within the coming weeks.

Someone else was saying to bring BC down from within which was a little silly, but the easier more lucrative solution is definitely:

  1. Accept offer and start new job
  2. Don't say anything to VMware
  3. Do nothing or absolute minimum - including take PTO/sick days
  4. Await offer/severance notification
  5. Take package from VMware/Bcom
  6. Count your double-dipped money
  7. Live happily ever after

“If you were to do such a thing, you have a very good opportunity to be sued in court by BC“

Not for nothing but I think BC has bigger fish to fry and more on its plate than something like this

My second job is changing Magoo’s diapers, it is off the books so I’m good.

If you were to do such a thing, you have a very good opportunity to be sued in court by BC. In the package you will receive, you will see that that it will clearly say that working for another company means you are open to litigation. Often, these packages also state that if you were to get a job within 30 days of being let go, you also might not get the full amount, or even any of the amount. I don't think you want to be on the wrong side of this.

Most companies have a clause in their contract that you cannot work for another unless you received permissions.

At least in the UK they'd find out through your tax code eventually - so for a severance you essentially risk your new job.

Good luck.

Great plan, but regardless of your feelings towards VMW/BC you would be screwing over your new employer.

Hope you get offers, then you can clear off.

2. Don't say anything to VMware

But by posting this here it's as good as telling the whole world.. especially through some third-rate reporters lurking on this site, all ready to reveal all the anonymous and unverified dirt collected from here.

This is what I’m doing now with a contract position that is turning FT. Just trying to hang in there until severance is offered. No break in income, and the bonus income of severance.

“So this is the great culture everyone will miss? So yea”

No lol. This is pre-acquisition permeation of the toxic, dog eat dog, dead morale of a parasitic company that treats their staff like sh-t and encourages individuals to fend for themselves versus behave like an actual team

If BC gives you offer, how would that be a double dip? Unless you plan on accepting that too.

I don’t expect one but if I do I’ll accept it and try to ride as long as possible

They’ve got a full mess on their hands day 2
