Has anyone else noticed most people getting the cut this year are over the age of 50?
Not even to say… been with the company for 15+ years. I’d like to start chatting about that.

If you are over 50 and get fired, sue the company.
Yes, just turned 51 and they asking if I am considering a package. Really strange people.
When I was at HP I was an "AGE." An "Acceptable Geriatric Employee."
I was good enough to keep around to balance the numbers but not a star.
I have been at HPE for 26 years, laid off 2 times first at age 30 then at 35. While it may seem like you know people with many years at HPE being laid off there were many under 40 which made up more than the 50 plus . Kinda hard to claim age descrimination .
I'm not pround to say it, but I participated in the WFR planning process for about 5 years, not this specific cycle, so this is a general statement. Although it would appear age related, in my observation it is a more cost related exercise. Higher salary ilinked to years of service linked to age. There are 2 amounts on a employee roster spreadsheet, salary and fully loaded cost. Fully loaded includes benefits, etc. Looking down either column, triple digits $100k+ stands out. If they are shifting offshore, depending on skill-set, fully loaded resource in India can be $15-$20k.
It's only a question of time until it transforms into an Indian or Bulgarian company, or at the very least, predominantly staffed by individuals from those countries. I experienced a workforce reduction three years ago from the Alpharetta facility, and the manager, who was of Indian descent, appeared genuinely enthusiastic when he called to inform me of my workforce reduction.
Yep! You have a target on your back at HPE if you are over 50, white, and male. That was clear with this round. Loyalty be damned. I saw people with 30+ years of HP/HPE experience get the bullet this round. Unfortunately, it is the post-Bill and Dave way. As many comments on this thread have expressed, that's the way it's been for years. They are correct.

But this time they targeted sales rep and SA. I know two team were all WFR with their 1st line manager.
Age discrimination is alive and well at HPE. I found it very ironic that the person who targeted me could easily pass for a crypt keeper.
At the time, I was quite bitter about leaving HPE (I took the retirement package at the direction of the crypt keeper) but I soon realized that there are much more stable companies out there and they crave people with strong technical skills. Not only did I receive a huge pay increase but my new job is much more fulfilling.
HPE has a long and not so proud history of being sued for age discrimination. This is nothing new, it's been going on for more than a decade, a quick google search will verify this
Remember that when you are emptying out your closet of your HPE logo shirts and jackets not to throw them away. Make sure you send them to a local homeless shelter, maybe some of the ones in Springs, Texas, or near the Woodlands (where the execs live), San Jose, CA or Reston VA.

That has been they way it’s been for at least the last 3 years
I am not seeing an age target but am seeing US folks being let go to be replaced by Eastern Europeans (Bulgaria and Romania).
I wonder why they don't do another round of early retirement option?
This happened at IBM (a lawsuit as I recall), and Microsoft. I am most familiar with Microsoft, and it was also very targeted to anyone over 50. They also have an internal metric, where they want their devs to be around the age of 35.
Tech is not age friendly, never has been. So much so, I would go back and tell my younger self to pursue a career in medicine or some other industry that isn't as ageist as tech.
Three in our org so far…50s and 60s
really depends on the organization. My team had smart young guys get let go (25-40)
I was one of those laid off Monday. I'm over 50
That has been the case for years.

I've noticed the same...
