I remember when Up gave us so many shares of stock. I sold mine many years ago . It’s good to invest in bonds, stocks, USA and international stocks. Open an IRA . It’s your money spread out in different places that way . You have control of it that way.No matter where you work .

The UP employee stock purchase plan is nothing but a plan for them to give you an IOU on money you earned. Notice they never wanted to offer such a thing in the good old days when the company was flush with cash and the stock had room to run. Just one more way for them to hold your money. If you want to buy their stock, do it in a brokerage account so you can sell whenever you need to and not have to wait a month to get your money back.

How the stock scam works is to buy from a reputable stock broker first. Second would be to buy stock that has a more positive growth trend. A constant up and down price trend doesn't send a very good signal. Third, you don't buy stock from the very company you work for. You have insider knowledge of how the company is run. I already learned that lesson. The UP stock price is very likely to go to sh1t soon. I got rid of my UP shares shortly after the peak of $278 per share. The stock price got a small bump when Vena announced he was coming back, and the downward trend has continued. The stock opened at just over $218 today, then fell to just above $210 throughout the day. It did hit a high of around $220 during trading. I'm not a stock market expert at all, but you DO NOT invest in any company that resorts to layoffs to boost profit. Invest in a company that actually has a growing profit from better or growing service, than one that has the same or less profit that's artificially made higher by cutting jobs.

@zqf as a former employee enrolled in the stock program. Takes about a month to get all the unsellable stuff (held <1 year) available, then you’re free to sell it all.

Question

Does anyone know how this UP employee stock scam works when I get laid off? Are the penalty fees for cashing out? Can I cash out the stock and just be on the hook for taxes?
