Thread regarding VMware layoffs

It's surprisingly better

So... yes there's some culture shock and there's some frank talk by the leadership but overall things are running smoother and quieter.

My manager was laid off, although he wasn't a terrible manager and we were shocked to see him leave but overall we don't miss him.

We're reporting to someone else now and we don't meet as frequently but it's okay.

Who knew?

HT demands performance but backs it up with nice salary and load of RSU’s

Hock also removed many benefits, reimbursements, and other incentives. We aren't doing quite so well as we think, when you add it all up.

“The BC people I‘ve met so far are all nice, but boy, are they afraid of HT!
Plus they are terribly disorganized and there is no guidance and very little communication!“

Speak for yourself all the BC people I know are very organized and communicate well with one another. They’re always trying to help one another. Nobody is scared of HT. Everyone is happy they’re getting paid well for their time. HT demands performance but backs it up with nice salary and load of RSU’s. The managers do a good job making sure employees are able to reach out if they need any guidance. Seen it first hand.

People at BC are normal, not zombies. The odds are that everyone around you also arrived via acquisition and they may still be recovering from the cultural shock.

My experience is that Hock is worse than expected.

The managers are surprisingly better at changing their moral compass to enforce a labor camp mentality.

@vqw
Lol. How you think they becomes managers in first place?
Able to align with changing wind is a basic skill for a manager. Also ability to lie.

Go team!!!

I mean team - 1….

No I mean team - 5

No… no, Team - 10.

Yea, now that’s teamwork. Wait? It’s my turn to be fired? Yay! Go team!

Now I know what toxic assets are - employees!

Good dog, sit, paw… good dog. Here is a RSU treat.

Now play dead… good dog.

You ICs are such cu- n7s

The cunting ICs are probably the reason the OP manager got laid off.

No one is going to be singing the praises of Hock 1.5 hrs in the morning and 1.5 hrs in the evening as they grind their teeth in traffic.

No RSUs make up for that. Eventually that bitterness will lead to employment elsewhere. What will be left is just enough to keep the lights on.

Imma get the F out of here.

No need to work in a company like this.

Sad to see, but oh well. Life goes on.

Ha! I love when either trolls or the company HR Marketing teams troll these sites. There is no way anyone is still feeling anything but stress within 2 weeks of an acquisition closing. Stop with this idea that there is an instant culture change BS.

Maybe you will get better compensation when managers are gone. But you stay at where you are… and hope to keep your job forever. You do you .. but I like to climb the corporate ladder or places where there is career advancement

If you're an engineer you'll be okay.

If you're a manager, you're screwed.

BC will keep winding down the management size until there's a completely flat hierarchy. You'll end up reporting to your division head at some point.

You'll also end up with higher compensation, each time a manager is let go.

How can you determine this after 15 days in service? In general it is the same management team. Maybe feels better after 18 months of alternating stasis and drama. But at this point hard to make a solid call either way.

Come on, really? You can’t call anything barely two weeks into an acquisition!

Start making comparisons after 6 months maybe……

I have a similar experience to share. Our team is more engineering focused and getting things done faster and better.
